3 year progress pictures

alright, i'm sorry, i have changed the angle and position, thus taking value from the idea of careful photographic growth tracking. but it's alright, becuase i don't think it's growing longer any more anyway. i know they say it grows slower once it gets longer, but i haven't noticed any growth in a year. i think november of 2002 was it. so i just decided to post a different kind of picture, and if it seems longer to anyone, that's great!
(i take them about every 3 months, so, as long as you have four pictures across your screen as i do, each one is a year longer than the one above.)
good luck to those of you still reaching terminal length. :)

Beautiful hair, as always Paddy.
So straight and healthy, I love your hair! Not only suits you, but looks great.

First... WoW!
The hair in the last picture is in my oppinion, perfect, the kind of hair I would do anything to get *really, really envious*
Secondly, the hair doesn't grow slower when it gets longer, it simply appears so, since it requires more growth to be noticeable... ;)
Question: The straighteness of the hair varies from picture to picture. Do you use a method to straighten (blowdrying it straight, flattening iron etc) or is it simply the added weight and gravity making it straighter the longer it gets?
Finally, you should be really proud of your hair, I hope you are.

thanks. :)
yes, there is always confusion among communication regarding "slower growth" and "less noticable growth", "stopped growing" and "terminal length", etc. whatever. :)
about straighness, i don't know how long your hair is, so i hope i'm not telling you anything you already know, but anyway, of course the hair gets straighter as it gets longer because of weight, but the main reason my pictures look different is drying.
if i wash my hair and don't do anything with it until it is dry, it is as curly as the most curly of the pictures. if i shake my head every couple minutes to keep the hair loose and if i run my fingers through it as it dries, it will be mostly straight but have wave to it. but, as was the case with the last picture, it was completely straight with no bending(except laying over the shoulders) because i kept it straight and flung it around and blow dried it(gently, with cold air).
i think the more you keep it straightened out while drying, the more the hairs can dry by their selves, and they are naturally straight, but if they are left alone, they stay in clumps, and the outside dries before the inside, and it curves, and dries curved, and ends up being curlier.
thanks again. happy growing. :)

My hair is about 6-8cm below the shoulders.

"kept it straight and and flung it around and blow dried it"? lol How do you fling it around, while at the same time keeping it straight? Also how did you keep it straight, using a round brush? comb? hands? etc

When letting my hair self-dry, as you mentioned, the outer layers do dry faster, leaving it for me super-curly, while the reste of the hair is somewhat "wavyish"... A LOT of strands also points out in a 90 degree angle, really annoying. I can get my hair more straight using a blowdryer. And I know that even very curly hair can be blowdried straight, but I find it very difficult, even though my hair is more straight than wavy...
I would guess your hair is more natural straight and not as "wild" as mine though.
Anyhow, be happy with it, I am really envious ;)

"straight"

what i mean is, i did blow dry it. i hung it down and blow dried it and ran my fingers through it, then carefully brushed it some, and repeated. then i swung my head to the left and right, so the hair swung around my head. if you would take a picture in the middle of the movement, the hair would be straight and aiming sort of back.
anyway, the idea is to not let it sit and dry; i swing, brush, and go through it to keep the hairs mostly straight out and to keep them from being in groups. it's hard to explain. oh well. :)

ok, I think I understand... ;) Doubt it does a lot of difference to my hair though, but worth a try.
Thanks

Wow, compliments to you on keeping your hair so healthy. It looks great! And you said you think you reached terminal length? If that's your terminal length, then do you lose lot's of hairs? I'm just thinking that someone with a max length like yours would lose more hair than someone with waist-length hair. I dunno, I just like to believe anyone can reach at least waist-length. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part :p In any event, keep up the good work!

yes, i seem to lose lots of hairs, i guess. i usually let the hairs build up in my brush until they fill it up, and then i carefully take off the hair "loaf". it's pretty neat, (although most might find it weird)
i do believe if my hair was longer then i would lose hairs at a lower frequency.

I read your post and see that you use a brush. I used a brush in the beginning but was losing too much hair so I switched to a pick which has widely spaced teeth. Hair loss dropped dramatically and I was finally able to grow my hair well past my waist. Switching to a pick or wide tooth comb should allow you to grow your hair quite a bit longer than its current length. Absalom

I rate the pictures as "excellent", but the greedy photo.net people want to steal my email address, so like most people I'm not able to submit the rating to photo.net
Keep the hair growing. I wish more people would have long hair and long beard.

Paddy, thanks for the update. You hair looks great. The length you have now suits you and is definitely "long". I hope you're not too disappointed if it turns out to be terminal length.
