Male hair bun

What is your opinion on males wearing their hair in a bun? I saw a young man on TV practicing martial arts who wore his hear in a flat bun low on the back of his head. Today in the mall I saw a male clerk wearing a small, intricate bun right in the middle of the back of his head. Both men looked reasonably masculine. What do you thing of males wearing hair buns?

I wear it in a bun when training and sparing. I also put a bandanna on over it to make sure it stays tied and stray hairs don't get in the way. But even with that on it's still quite obvious my hair is in a bun up there. I think it looks kinda corny having a bandanna with a huge lump in it, but it gets the job done and that's all I care about.

My thought on any hair style is to try it out and see what it looks like on yourself. Not everyone can pull off wearing every hair-style and still look masculine.

Currently, all my hair collects about 1/2 inch below my crown, and until my hair is halfway down my back, will probably look like a bun. Dang
Buns are fine, just wish curly hair gave more options. . .

I think it works - there are quite a few people opting for it a the moment - I think David Beckham has popularised it a bit (If you can call it a bun.)
Incidentally how you tie it?

Pete, I've done it before. It looks pretty good. Actually with my current hair length, I kinda have to wear it in sort of a bun at the crown of my head for it to look good... Before it was cut, I used to wear my hair either in a 'tail or a bun about 50/50. Depended on the weather, and also on what I was doing. Working on a car, definitely in a bun and with some head protection so I didn't have to wash my hair after working on the car. If I was out 'n about and it was sunny, ponytail. Would keep my neck from getting sunburned. Even a high pony with my former length was long enough to cover my neck and the upper part of my shoulders. It was also pretty obvious that I did have long hair, so I wasn't trying to hide it by wearing a pony. Just preferred the fact that it helped with some of the headaches that I've had in my lifetime. Also was more comfortable for me.

I have publicly worn my hair in a chignon (bun) many times, especially when wearing a suit. Very neat and fairly unobtrusive if it is small. But the edgy part for men comes with the use of the bobby pins needed to secure it to the head. Even if they are not visible everyone who sees it, even men, know that they just have to be there somewhere. Pins are still horribly taboo to most men although I found that many women couldn't care less. But I think a few pins are a small price to pay for the neatness. Many today are wearing what I call the "idiot's or coward's bun". This is where a ponytail is turned back on itself and the end is then also put into the elastic. You get a nice loop but a silly looking tail sticking out beside it. It seems to me that these guys really want to have a bun but are too nervous about having to use bobby pins. Now though I even see girls doing this, but what's their excuse?

Easy - the loop can be achieved in a few seconds. A bun takes longer and uses more accessories. I like the loop - have never liked the look of buns, it's just a personal preference.

No objection from me. Actually looks quite well on some men.........but apart from that..........what counts is that you can be yourself and feel happy about your own hair and determine yourself just how you desire to wear it. Have fun!

cool, just go with the flow, Try putting it over a bun ring and placing a net over it, this would look great and would be very neat and secure.
