i am in the process of growing my hair out, but it is way to thick. i really want longer, shaggy hair, but it seems to look more like an afro. is there any product i could use that would thin my hair out and make it more managable.

I thought you were saying your hair was thick!
I was gonna say "wtf? My hair is that thick, and I'd say it's thin!" LOL

welcome to the awkard stage. for thick, curly hair, you'll have at least two, if not three years to wait. good luck.

Hey Stevie,
I can sympathize. I have long thick hair myself and well remember that bushy stage you are referring to. My suggestion(s)? First: A really good cut, yes, cutting it (SLIGHTLY) can help it grow. Second: A really good conditioner. Opinions will vary greatly on this but I love Frizz-Ease products. I suggest the shampoo, conditioner AND afterwards, use a spray leave in conditioner. And last but certainly not least: As often as possible, leave the blow dryer in the OFF position.
Well, that's my $.02, good luck to ya and remember....patience, patience, patience!

Just curious, could you explain exactly how that works? Seeing as how hair is dead (excepting the root) I didn't really think that cutting it would make any difference. Now I understand split ends being trimmed off and such, but as far as normal, healthy hair, how does trimming help it to grow?

It doesn't... that is an old wife's tale...

I understand, but the question was designed to induce thought.
