SPLIT ENDER

I saw an infomercial on TV this morning for a product called the "split ender". Basically, you clamp down both sides of the tool on some hair and run it through, the "safety screen" makes sure that only the SPLIT parts of the hair are cut off, and the split part off the end.
Now I'd be scared ****less trying out this for the first time, just wondering if anyone else has heard of it or tried it, seems like a simple solution rather than going to the salon.

I ordered it a couple of weeks ago (which I also mentioned in a post to this board). Apparently the shipping was delayed, but they said I should receive it in the end of this week.
As you mentioned, I will probably be shaking of fear first time I use it. But I will begin with the bottom layers, and I figure, one of their biggest selling points is that you can't do wrong when using it, and that it only cuts about 1/8 inch. If the possibility was for this to fail, I figure they would pretty much go bankrupt in lawsuits.
Of course you never really know, and it is still scary. But new things are always a mystery and sometimes you have to give it a try. If it works it might be the solution to some really annoying har problems...
Of course one has has to make sure not to over-use it... Using it once every fifth week or so as they recommend, does sound like a lot to me... But once every 3 months or so so might be worth it... 1/8 of an inch is "only" about a weeks growth. And if it really makes a huge difference I say it's worth a try.

Heat?? There's no heat, and it doesn't repair it, it cuts the hair...
After seeing it in action...

I recalled seeing a consumer reporter testing the Split Ender out back in November. From what I remember, the three testers were not impressed. The entire transcript is not reproduced on the television station's website but the gist is given in the article linked below. The most telling aspect unfortunately did not make the truncated archive. After using the Split Ender one of the testers opened up the device and she and the reporter were startled to see how few hairs were actually cut. While charitably I could attribute it to the lack of split ends in the tester's hair, by the skeptical look on the reporter's face it was more likely that the device had limited effectiveness. Another tidbit of interest is that two of the three testers, given the chance to keep their split ender *free*, chose not to keep it.
