I've got hair which is below my shoulder (at last), and I've also got both of my ears pierced. I've seen some men (and women) with some fantasic earrings, but can't find them anywhere. They a long pendanty
type earrings with things like silver cars, bikes etc at the bottom. I've spent all day looking on the net and can't find any. Can anyone help?

Wow, those are some really cool looking earrings! I've got both ears pierced too, but I just recently bought a whole bunch of new earrings locally. I usually wear the small to medium sized siler round sleepers/hoop style.
Those car earrings might be nice, they're a bit bigger (I think) and might be better visible with long hair.

I dunno 'bout cars and bikes, but I buy most of my earrings at crafts fairs and similar. I wear mostly "folksy" looking ones (I'm also pierced once in each ear), some studs, mostly dangles - some of which are quite outrageous! I have 61 pairs right now!
I've also had good luck with eBay.

I finally started buying more expensive earrings. The cheaper ones would tarnish quickly (especially in you swim in a pool with chlorine). Since I like small to medium sleepers (hoop style) earrings, I usually just buy mine at the jewelry counter at a large department store like Sears, which oddly enough, are better that some I paid twice the price for a jewlry store!
I look for sterling silver or surgical steel. They stay nice and shiney for a long time. I also have a pair of eyebrow rings/nipple rings that I use as earrings. They're a bit thicker than standard earrings, but they hold up really well if you can get them in.
I used to wear two earrings in each ear, but now I just wear one in each ear. I've tried the earrings from craft shows too, but they never seemed to hold up very well...

Hmmm.... I've had few problems, but we're probably talking apples/oranges. I tend to gravitate towards medium to large to HUGE dangles with lots of "work" in them.

It would be nice to see some pictures of your most outrageous earrings worn with your long hair. Might help some others to go outside of the norm of studs and small hoops. I too like all kinds of dangles, wear them sometimes but not often. My favorites are generaly Indian styles.

I have 7 simple 20 guage wire hoops all graduated in size, 3 in the left ear and 4 in the right ear. (My right earlobe is slightly larger than my left and is able to fit 4 earrings.) I also have hair over 3 feet long. Absalom

Want to try something different? Ever heard of Bajoran earrings? These are an earcuff attached to the upper part of the ear, connected to a chain about 3 to four inches long, which is attached to an earring at the bottom in the usual spot. These are worn singly and were worn by both men and women on the TV show "Deep Space Nine". I have about a dozen of these, and if you're going for outrageous, this is it. I've gotten most of mine online, but you can construct your own using an earring, a thin chain, and an earcuff.

I have mine stretched up to 2 gauge (about 5mm I believe). I usually fluctuate between 6 and 2 and have not been able to get up to 0 yet. I started stretching way back in 1998 and went up a gauge about once a year or so. I also like the look; I wear hemetite 2 gauge plugs; those that know what they are usually think they're cool while those that don't just think they are some weird kind of stud. I would wear the tunnels but my wife doesn't like them (I am 32 and supposed to be more responsible, I suppose).

i hope you dont get offended by this, i'm not trying to be mean, just curious. what is the reasoning behind stretching one's ear lobes?
usually when i hear about people doing "weird" things to their body i can put two and two together to get a general reason for why someone might do it, but stretching ear lobes completly escapes me. :/

Hiya, No that is a perfectly valid question :-) It is obviously all personal but for me it is a combination of things.
1: I think it looks cool!
2: Its a personal challenge (a lobe doesnt stretch it self (properly, although weights can and are used by some people) it takes much time and patience , akin to growin ones hair long. It has taken my around 10 months to reach 9mm using stretching tapers and decent jewellery.
3: Too stand out - a stretched lobe can create attention -ie; to be individual
4: For some people it is a spiritual thing!(although not in my case)
There are many other reasons to for different people..
If this topic interests you the worlds biggest piercing/body mod website it www.bmezine.com . A great forum community to discuss these issues is http://pub132.ezboard.com/bbodypiercingtattooingandbodymodification
Hope that helped a little to answer your question :-)

people whom i've met with body modifications have been really snappy if i ask them the question of why, as if i'm implying that what theyre doing to themselves is wrong. but i'm glad i found 2 mature people to answer me on this one. thanks. :)

No, I am not offended. If I was, I wouldn't do it. I suppose I like doing it because I like having control over my body, making it better (in my opinion). The same reason that I grew my hair out, and that I work out. Also, it is somewhat addictive; once you start stretching, the jewelry starts to seem small after a while, and you want to stretch again. I have resisted the temptation to strech beyond what can shrink back, as I am a professional (with a Ph.D in Engineering) and a family to support. Luckily, I am discreet about it and I don't offend anyone (well, nobody has told me they're offended, though my wife does not like the tunnels). It is the only body modification I have: no tattoos or other body jewelry. I find hidden body jewelry or hidden tattoos pointless -- if nobody can see them, what's the point?
So, those of us who stretch their ears are not freaks, though maybe a little weird and would just like to show it.

I'm at 0ga right now, and I've got the standard 14ga in my left eyebrow. I think it's a great look combined with my hair and long beard. Kinda brings it all together..makes it "complete", if you will.
Oh, and as for jewelry, right now it's a single flare eyelet on the right and a blue glass spiral on the left (my other eyelet fell out in my sleep two nights ago, and I haven't found it yet).
