Need a better way than hot iron

Ok i asked before a bit ago and got no replies but with spring and summer.... hot weather and humid i need to get this taken care of. My hair is halfway down my back(About 2 1/2 years). For the last year or so i'v used a hot straighting iron to get the curls out. My hair natural is very wavy, poofy, frizzy, and flat out bad looking. With the iron it looks amazing, just what i like straight and smooth.
It's just when i sweat, it gets humid, water touchs it. The hair starts to curl or poof out and looks awful. I need something permanent... i wanna walk out of the shower dry my hair and not have to do anything else to get it straight. I'v heard of expensive salons doing procderures for this but i really can't afford stuff like that. Is there any cheaper way to get great looking straight hair?? Hell if i have to redo the process every 2 weeks or something it's still easier than everyday out of the shower ironing it with that dam thing. Not to mention i don't wanna keep it for fear of damage(So far ok).
Thanks for anyone that can help me, i really could use it... i can't seem to find a soluntion to this!

really, the only way to get straight hair like what you want is to get a perm... i'm not really sure how expensive it is, but i wouldn't think it's too expensive since i know a lot of people who get perms. i wish i could be of more help, but i've got hair straighter than ... errrr... something really straight. like a ruler.
