I have the Same exact problem, my hair is naturally wavy, but can be VERY curly, and i despritly want to have long hair, And my hair also kind of looks like a mini-fro. Now ive only bin growing for like 9-10 months, and got it "trimed" twice, (meanwhile i say, i just want a little bit off, the guy cuts off 2 inches) so my hair is only below the eyes (it would probly be to the nostrals, except my mom kept whining "get it trimed" )
Im just worried my hair wont fall onto itself to allow it to look long, and instead just fluff out, when it gets longer.

It is possible to have long curly, I know lots of people who have curly long hair, but I guess you would consider it more, "fro" type. Of course, if that isn't what your looking for, you can always use other things like flat irons or get it chemically relaxed to get it straight.
As for the problem with your parents, you'll have to work out a deal before you start.

Don't worry man, it's a long road (longer than those with straight hair, IMO) but it's worth it. My hair is almost to the 16 month mark, with the only trim being the hair in the back. It is just now STARTING to fall down on itself, and it's still a major fright in the mornings. However, I get women in malls, movie theatres etc, who walk up to me and say "can I touch your hair?" or "can I pull on one of the curls?". Oh yeah, straight-haired folks, eat yer heart out! :)
Pulled straight, my bangs reach about 1-1.5 inches from the bottom ov my chin, but normal, they come to just below my eyes, so length isn't as noticable. Go to my yahoo photo site at http://profiles.yahoo.com/thatballguy and I have some photos up. Mind you, my hair grows slightly slower than the average.
Take heart my fellow curly hair! The battle is longer and harder, but the rewards are worth it!
Just a suggestion, go to your folks and say "I'm going to try a test. I'm going to let my hair grow out for 1.5 years, and at the end of that, if my hair still looks like crap, I'll get it trimmed" Seems to work with some kids at the local high school.
As Always,
That "Ball" Guy

It is ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE for you to have Long Hair. Just let it grow for two years non-stop.............you will see. :-)
However, for those with Curly Hair, the so-called "Awkward-Stage" is especially taxing to get through. The more you keep getting it "cut" the less likely are your chances of breaking through the wall in which you are now trapped because of your parents. I do hope you can change their minds and just be able to be yourself. Good Luck.

Zakk,
No, not at all. While it may seem that it is never going to get long, it eventually will. The only key, though, is not getting it cut. Don't trim it at all! In time, it will grow long.
I have been growing my hair for 19 months now. It is what most people would call curly. It's now starting to behave very well. Hang in there!

I'm about a quarter black so my hair's dead curly and thick. For about a year or so it was a total Fro but around the 13/14 month mark mine started parting itself and looking more like, say, Danny Lilker's hair. You'll appreciate it more if you make it through the awkward stage. I love my hair at the moment...when I headbang it looks so much more epic than straighthaired folks! ;)
It takes strength to make it through the fro patch though. I got so many people yelling insults at me in the street, but I've been strong enough to rise above. Also, grow a beard. It scares away those who would cause you problems...
