Free webspace doesn't work well here

I see the Tarikh and Longhaired Boy threads below this one have unviewable pictures because of exceeded bandwidth. So many people view this web board that if you use a free site for your photos, you will find your bandwidth is soon exceeded. Some free sites will shut your web site down for a few hours, and others will shut it down until the end of the month. Bummer for you. Bummer for us.
Free sites also often block "hot linking" (viewing their photos without viewing their pages where their ads are) which means we have to go through a few mouse clicks to get around that, and some of the board's visitors don't know how to do that, so they miss out on your pictures.
The thing to do is use the free web space that usually comes with one's Internet account. Most E-Bayers know how to use this space if you don't know how to, so ask one you know. Such space generally has larger monthly bandwidth allocations, and it usually won't block "hot linking". If you use really large photos on here though, you may still trash your bandwidth limit. This board gets a lot of viewers!

Your missing Bill's point... your ISP will provide you with decent webspace that goes with your dial-up or broadband account. Look into it, you probably have 50Mb of webspace which is accessible on a url like http://users.myisp.com/myspace.
Mostly don't bother to remind you about it after you sign up, only about 1% of ISP users actually use the web space that comes with their Internet Connectivity provider.
Check your ISP's web site out for info... You can sometimes (though rarely) map it to a domain www.mysite.com, but most ISP's charge extra for this and your better off going to a specialist web host. But then again - I would say that... its my job. ;-)

... just send your photo's to me. I run a server right here at home and have hosted photo's for a number of people on this board. All I have to do is hold it in my HTDOC's folder of my Apache server and link from my web address and the image file. I am always willing to help out with this. I do one of two things: When they e-mail the photo/photos to me I either post the photos at the board for the person, or send the html code back to the person via e-mail and they can post it theirselves with their personalized message. Peace!

i would be interested what people think of hair, because i have some probs with it and would know if it looks okay anyway.
and another point : if my english is not correct, i will apologize for it, because it is not my native language...i am from germany.

You can do it with Windows as well, XP Pro and 2000 Pro both come with a single site version of IIS which you can set-up to run as a web server, just makesure you install the latest service packs AFTER you install IIS. (Too many home IIS Web Servers still get Code Red.)
You do kinda need a pernament Internet Connection to make this work though... Dymanic DNS Services can also help if your DSL doesnt have a static IP.

We're off "board" topic... but they are as safe as any Unix/Linux platform when properly patched. MS is a big target, their problems get highlighted because their software is highly commercialised. The fact that there have been so many fixes applied to Windows in response to security issues really proves how secure it now is.
Sure no system is perfect, but your kiding yourself if you think a Unix or Linux plaform is safe if you set it up "out-of-the-box" you have gotta know what your doing... the only difference is, with Unix/Linux system you wont be such a target.
My best advice for keeping servers safe is to disable ICMP Ping responses at your firewall... you become almost invisible! I've noticed an 90% drop in attempted attacks by doing this, and the other 10%... let em try... I'm patched!
