im only 15 and i live in florida, and i have short hair but id really like it to be longer b/c i think id look better with long, flipped out hair. My biggest problem is that it when i let it grow for like a month, it starts getting nappy and out of control..and i dont know what to do with it cause it takes so long to "grow it out" into the hair style i would like. So about after a month when its a lil long, it gets sorta big and i dont know what to do with it or how to fix it for the time being until i grow it long enough.i straighten my bangs and the other back parts of my hair with a strightner and it just looks plain and boring...plz help me whoever reads this

You're going through the very first incarnations of the akward stage. Others may reccommend that you use "patience" and things of that nature but my advice is "get over it". Not meaning that in the rude sense though, it really is the greatest thing you can do while growing out your hair (believe me, I know). It's not as bad as you think it is, and eventually it'll grow past that.
For help with the akward phase read Bill Choisser's On Being a Longhair.

As you grow your hair out, it needs to be tamed with a good moisturising conditioner and controlled with very light styling products. I reccomend men-u leave-in conditioner. They also have a hair wax, which is really a light cream to work in with your fingers around the scalp. the site is: www.men-uusa.com

Get a trim every 4 weeks then and tell the stylist what style your going for. (also make sure you get the same stylist each time as will be easier).

I'd say stop straightening your hair, just use some molding wax to add some texture on your hair, and create a sorta curly and messy kind of look...a lot of guys from southern California have this kind of hair style... again, long hair is IN for this year's trend...im 21 and i decided to grow my hair long like a month and half ago (i want a messy and shaggy surfer kind of style)...i know it's gonna be a pain in the a$$, but there really isn't much we can do..so be PATIENT.

The hard reality is that if your hair is nappy in texture then you probably won't be able to have hair just like Ashton (I take it that you are referring to the celeb who is getting a lot of press right now?), as his hair isn't nappy. Everyone's hair is unique and you may just need to grow it out for a while to see what it really wants to do and work with it's own characteristics. If you try to work with what you have instead of imitating popular folks who have different hair then you will be much more satisfied with what you have...and then will want to keep it longer.

If you hair gets "big" and "nappy" as it grows out, and you can't just live with it. Then the best thing you can do is keep it in shape, get a trim every 6 weeks, leaving the hair on top of your hair untouched. Make sure the stylist knows what you are aiming for.
After a few months you should be getting some reasonable length on top, and you'll feel more comfortable letting the rest of your hair get a little longer.
Gradually you'll be able to go for longer periods between trims (maybe 3 months) after a year your hair should be at a good length on top and you'll be nearer your goal. (Remember hair grows at 1/2 inch a month so never cut more than that if you want it to grow.)
But face if you want your your hair to grow at a decent rate you are gonna have to go thru faces where it is big and gangly. Just put up with it for as long as you can before you trim and you'll see the best results.
