Im going for a slight trim next week to keep it growing down. As sadly it tends to try grow outwards.

Trim won't cure curl

In my opinion a trim won't help that. Letting it grow will.

Actually, if done correctly (making underneath hairs ever so slightly shorter than "on-top" hairs), a trim can correct a curl/flip. It is how I help my getting-to-be longhaired clients get through their awkward stage.

Though that same technique can result in a "pageboy" look.
But I believe that trims can help provide a more "shaped" look and they certainly helped me through the awkward stage during my first year. But now its got passed my ears at the sides and its to my shoulders at the back I'm gonna let it grow as untrimmed for 6 months. Should be smoother sailing from here on.

Every time you get it trimmed, true.........it may look much better in the "under-control" dept. But as it grows out the same growing pattern will be seen again of growing outwards. Perhaps think about just letting it do its "grow-outwards" thing until gravity finally brings this look to an end. Otherwise, your hair will never be allowed to grow any longer. Wouldn't it be great if this "Awkward Stage" could be an easy stage for us all. If it were myself, I would not get the trim at this stage.

Im not going for a super dooper long long look hehe. Anyway that's just been dryed in that pic if i straighten it properly it's a lot longer. Plus my hair dresser tells me to come for one every 6 weeks to keep shape and texture. Im not in a rush so id rather have a nice straight textured look than long puffed out dry damaged hair.

You seem to have the kind of hair that will lend itself
to having an easier awkward phase than most!
Good luck with both your hair and your new camera!

I keep checking my moniter and it seems OK but I get a lot of blurry, dark pictures from site contributors...perhaps someone could suggest some guidelines on how to take good pictures before sending them on....

It isn't growing outward. The SLIGHT puffiness you are seeing is the thickest portion of your hair. That is where the hair is it's thickest. This "illusion" is because of the layering of the hair below that point.
If you're going for a long layer, that's great. It's just the way it should be. If you'd like it all one length (which would rid you of the "puffy" portion), you need to stop getting it cut or just have the bottom cut until the rest catches up. Or just not get it cut until it's at the length you want.
Having it cut every 6 weeks will hinder the growth...hair only grows a half an inch a month, and "normal" hairdressers will swear they need to take more than that off at each "sitting" for a maintenance cut.
It will not get dry and shaggy just because you don't get it cut. My hair hasn't seen a pair of scissors for months, and I have only a few split ends. These I take off myself while sitting through boring college lectures. hehehe
