should I chop it off?

Just trying to get a general concensus- Ive had long hair for the last 6 years. It goes all the way to my waist and I almost always wear it in a pony-tail since it gets in the way otherwise. Im giving serious thought to cutting all off for two reasons: 1) Even though I really like it, it seems like a hassle sometimes (washing etc). 2) Im not sure this is the best look for me. You see, Im on the longest dry-spell of my sex life (going on 3 years!!) My luck was not always so bad. I certainly had my fair share in the past, with and without long hair. But I cant shake the feeling that I am limiting myself to a small subset of women who find long hair attractive or at least acceptable. It seems like the vast majority of women are very turned off by a guy in long hair. I dont really want to look like every other short-haired Jon Doe, but Im desperate to break this dry spell and if it will significantly improve my chances Im willing. Any thoughts or advice you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Maybe it's not your hair.

I DON'T THINK LONG HAIR WOULD KEEP YOU FROM GETTING GIRLS, BUT IF YOU DO CUT IT I THINK YOU SHOULD TRY CUTTING IT AT MID BACK FIRST AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS, MAYBE A LOT OF GIRLS ARE TURNED OFF IF IT IS DOWN TO YOUR WASTE. I CAN TELL YOU THIS THOUGH, I HAVE HAD LONG HAIR AND SHORT HAIR 3 TIMES IN MY LIFE. TO DATE I HAVE HAD SHORT HAIR A LOT LONGER THAN I HAVE HAD LONG HAIR AND I CAN SAY THAT WITH SHORT HAIR I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO GET A DATE IN MY LIFE BUT WITH LONG HAIR I HAVE. SO I WOULD THINK SHORT HAIR WOULD ONLY MAKE IT TOUGHER FOR YOU TO GET A GIRL. IT MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE, IS YOUR HAIR GETTING GRAY OR ARE YOU GETTING A LOT OF WRINKLES OR ARE YOU GETTING FAT? IF SO MAYBE YOU COULD TRY "JUST FOR MEN" IF IT IS GRAY, "FACIAL MAGIC" IF YOUR GETTING WRINKLES AND IF YOUR GETTING FAT I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF GOOD WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMS, JUST DON'T USE THE ONES THAT CLAIM EXTREMELY QUICK WEIGHT LOSS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT REALISTIC. HOPE THIS HELPS

It's true. I see what you're trying to do, posting replies in
all caps so you can separate them from the original message. But
frankly, it's just too much trouble to read posts in all caps. So
I usually skip them. Sorry.

Transliteration: i don't think long hair would keep you from getting girls, but if you do cut it i think you should try cutting it at mid back first and see what happens, maybe a lot of girls are turned off if it is down to your waste. i can tell you this though, i have had long hair and short hair 3 times in my life. to date i have had short hair a lot longer than i have had long hair and i can say that with short hair i have never been able to get a date in my life but with long hair i have. so i would think short hair would only make it tougher for you to get a girl. it must be something else, is your hair getting gray or are you getting a lot of wrinkles or are you getting fat? if so maybe you could try "just for men" if it is gray, "facial magic" if your getting wrinkles and if your getting fat i know there are a lot of good weight loss programs, just don't use the ones that claim extremely quick weight loss because they are not realistic. hope this helps
Well, there might not be any capital letters, but see if it's easier to read?

I also thought about cutting my hair for that same
reason but, I realized it would have been a big mistake! If you like having long hair then don't cut it for that reason. If a woman is attractive to you see will like you no matter what kind of hair you have! Look at Brad Pitt for example! If you do decide to cut it just cut a little at first. That way you could grow it back long. Donot go from waist length to short, I will guarntee that you won't like it. I thought of cutting my hair 8 months ago.I cut off six inches of my mid back lenght hair. I had instance regret! I thank God that I didn't cut it really short! I would have been growing it out again. I suggest you don't cut it at all and just try different ways to meet woman. I found a great book called "How to Succeed with Woman." You can buy this at any book store for $20.00. Good Luck!

Mmmm! This is my goal to have hairs to my waist - they are actually mid back after almost 2 years of non-cut.
:Im giving serious thought to cutting all off...
That would be such a shame.
Yesterday as I was shoping in the mall I have notice a fashionable clothes stores that was having one of those male "manequin" (sorry I don't know the English word for those human representation in which they put clothes on) in the show case in front of the store that was having nice long hairs on. When the store start to use a model to show their colection it mean that it is the trend no?
Anyway if you want to cut them be sure that you have no other expectation else than your own personal desire or you risk to be disapointed, no?

Yes, indeed! The people who put up such displays have a good sense of societal trends. This indicates one in our direction and is good news. I haven't noticed long hair on mannequins here yet, but I've sure noticed an increase in its appearance on models in advertising photographs, such as in the Sunday paper! This seems to have steadily increased in the last year.

Stop and rethink your decision....I had a similar thought several years ago and acted upon impulse - I went to a new stylist who totally screwed up my hair which had been mid back. I was so upset that when I went home - this was back when I had a temper - I kicked out the bottom of the front door. If a woman is attracted to you it will be whether you have long hair, short hair, or no hair! Remember - the inside never changes. I only WISH there were middle aged men in this part of the country with long hair. I am definitely a child of the 60-70's and have always LOVED longhaired men!

Have you hair cut and styled in a longer style - shoulder length or a bit longer. I'm a 70's freak and love shag cuts - just s suggestion - good luck.

You hair does have a big impact on people's impression of you, good and bad...how can it not. Remember, you cannot please (or attract) everyone. Most people on this board will tell you not to cut it. It is ultimately your decision.
What I can offer is this: Think about what would make you feel most good/attractive. Worry about women secondarily. If you feel good, they will respond. Seek other things that will make you feel more visually attractive, too. New clothes? Facial Hair?
It sounds like you may be just bored and need a change.
Trends and fashion aside, some people look great with long hair, some look terrible. Try to find out from folks which way you seem.
If you do cut, cut it to your shoulders first and see how you feel then.
Good luck

I would not cut it. Long hair in this length is great, I couldn't never reach it for me. Sometimes I had very short hair, sometimes it was shoulder length (or some inches longer), but I never had the impression that my hair length had something to do with my chances on women I was interested it. But all of this women had long hair.

I don't think cutting off body parts will improve your chances. Making yourself available by creating opportunities to meet new friends should increase your changes.
Good luck

I had very long hair for a very long time. I'm also a musician, which makes it almost more acceptable. I had pretty good luck with women, but in retrospect (after having cut it off and worked in corporate america for 8 years with a GQ-looking short cut), most of those "women" were girls who liked "Guns 'n' Roses" and that sort of thing.
Now, after going into business for myself (most clients are through the mail and have no idea what I look like), I'm finally able to grow my hair out again. I missed feeling it blow in the breeze in the springtime. However, I did notice more women were attracted to me when I had the chopped-and-gelled thing going on, which I personally hated. I did it mainly to get along.
I no longer am attracted to "groupie" type women, and am hoping that there are some intelligent, attractive women who like longhairs.
One suggestion: Try cutting it to shoulder-length and keeping the dry, split ends off. I think part of the turnoff for some of these women is that when it's REALLY long and stringy-looking, it doesn't look like you care about yourself (to them). Since I've been keeping it to shoulder-length and keeping it "maintained" so it doesn't look scuzzy, the women seem to be more open to it.
I hope something in there seemed relevant.

As one who has hair both long and short throughout my life, mostly long, but at times short -- I will say that I have gotten both positive and negative responses from women concerning the length. Recently one woman asked me if I was growing my hair out, then added that, "I liked your hair short -- it was cute!" While we are still friends, she is not as friendly as she once was. There have been other instances similar to this one. So I think that, yes, long hair does turn off some women, perhaps, most women. After all, most women are raised by long-haired mothers and have short-haired fathers. These short-haired fathers provide a role model for the expectations of future mates/boyfriends/husbands. Think about your own preferences of hair on women: In my case, I find long-haired women very attractive, but not short-haired women. Is there any wonder that women don't feel the same way? Think about what images having long-haired men conjure up: Hippies? Slackers? Surfers? Bums? Willie Nelson? Remember, that these are the images that women connect with also. The bottom-line: if you do want to attract more women, then YOU SHOULD CUT YOUR HAIR! In my case, I decided that I would be willing to accept some dry spells of my love life for a little variety in hairstyles, i.e. longer hair. You have to decide what is more important, hair or a harem. Of course, you may find that with some women you can have the best of both worlds . . .
