Long wavy hair
Posted by M. on September 14, 2001 at 23:27:44: Previous Next
I am curious about something. I have thick wavy hair. I'm currently undergoing the awkward stage (lots of fun), but i will be patient and and sooner or later my hair will be long. But i would like to ask you guys and especilly you girls that read this board, what you think about long wavy hair. I personally think it's beautiful (when it's well taken care of, of course). What do you think? do you like long wavy hair?
If so, why, if not why not?
you wanted a girl's opinion...

While I can't speak for every girl, I think that growing long beautiful hair is the absolute best thing that any man can do for his
appearance. I don't have any strong preferences for texture - staight, wavy, curly - it's all beautiful as far I'm concerned. (Of course, like you said, taking good care of it is important too.) A gorgeous head of hair is just irresistable; I've got two guy friends with really beautiful really long hair - one has straight brown waistlenghth hair and the other one has wavy light brown/dark blond hair that goes down to just past his butt - and they both get attention from girls everywhere they go... definitely got my attention :)
I've got really thick wavy hair too, so I know that if your hair is anything like mine it'll probably be pretty frustrating to deal with until it gets longer. I can kind of sympathize with the whole awkward stage thing too since when I was little my mom kept forcing short haircuts on me (I hated them!) that were supposed to be the "cute" hairstyles for little girls. It was actually more like a forced awkward stage that lasted way longer than it should have. Around eighth grade I finally got them to leave my hair alone and I managed to avoid haircuts until about tenth grade. By then I finally had some length but it was really uneven and looked so bad that even I had to admit I needed a trim, even though I didn't want one. My grandma finally draggrd me off to a stylist she knew who actually was pretty long-hair-friendly ( well she had good intentions at least, 'cuz she didn't want to chop it all off like the lady my mom took me to, but I don't think she knew half as much about hsir as the guys on this board). Even so, I ended up losing maybe four or five inches. But as much as I hate the thought of losing that length, in the long run my hair is actually probably a lot better since what I lost was so damaged (I had no idea how to take care of my hair then). Well, I haven't cut it since then and I'm in my first year of college now with hair that's way longer and better looking than it ever was before. Okay, so this part kind of rambled, but anyway, just try to take the best care of you hair that you can so you don't end up having to learn the hard way like I did.
Please, please, don't do what some guys do and just get frustrated and cut it all off. Don't give up. Just be patient, let it grow, and ENJOY IT. The world needs more longhaired men! : )

Thank you very much for your answer Shirley. For what you say you know very well what the awkward stage feels like... terrible. But i know i have to be patient and eventually my hair will be long. If i had any doubts about growing my hair in the back of my mind, which i didn't, you surely helped make them go away, as well as the rest of the guys on this board. It's people like you that give me strength to endure this stupid awkward stage and i won't get frustrated and cut it all off, no way. I have always wanted to have long hair but i could never get passed chin length because i always got frustrated with my hair and everyone would tell me to cut it and things like that, so i that's what i use to do, cut it... which was what others wanted but not what i wanted, but not anymore. I'm taking good care of my hair now so when it's long it will be beautiful for now i know better how to take care of it. Actually i just try not to think much about it while (yeah, like that is really possible (: ). Anyway, i can't thank you enough for the support.

Just out of curiosity does your opinion of long hair on men apply
equally to men ..um..oh, say slightly older than your age group?
(hope so)

Well, no matter how old a person is long hair looks way better than short hair. There are of course some exceptions to that; I have seen guys who very obviously didn't take care of their hair (or any other part of themselves for that matter)at all, and that's just not attractive, but in those cases age isn't really the deciding factor. I certainly don't think that there is any age at which a a person suddenly becomes "too old" to have long hair.
I'm not sure how well I can answer your question though since I don't know just how old is "slightly older" or what you consider my age group to be - but for that one I'm guessing you mean most college kids. However, I can think of plenty of examples of longhairs who I've met/seen pictures of that are five, ten or more years older than myself who I think are very handsome. Of course, looks aren't the most important part of attraction. I'e also met plenty of good looking guys ( of various ages) who turned out to be jerks. I definitely think that longhair does look better than short hair though, and that applies no matter how old the guy is.
By the way, to all the guys who said such nice things about what I wrote, thanks so much. You really made me smile.

Thank you! I enjoy your messages very much. I agree with you that
its hair care that matters more than age. Dirty ratty hair is dirty
ratty hair regardless the age of the hair grower.
I only said "your age group" because earlier you had stated that you
are a college freshman. I won't confess how much slightly older is.
Again, I appreciate your messages for us longhairs very much.
