An appropriate two word response to any shaming message is "Fuck You!" said slowly and clearly. It worked for me when my hair was growing out.
One "friend" called me "Long haired hippie biker trash" (whatever that is)...I just looked him in the eye and gave him the above response.
Rather than fight he could only sputter and ask why I said that to him. Told him it was an appropriate response to a shaming message.
He sputtered something about not meaning to shame me...told him it sure sounded like a shaming message or an insult when it was coming in. Never had a comment about my hair from him since and my hair is now down to my butt.

Medicine Horse, please remember this is a public forum.
Could I ask that you use captions or asterisks to censor any possible swear words in the future.
Thank you.

Well, no intent to offend. I'm a post master's level, state certified, therapist and feel the words are most therapeutic when there's no doubt about them. Living next to an elementary school I'm aware that children know that old Anglo-Saxon word from a young age...'cause I hear it drifting over from the school quite frequently.
Not sure where the proud Anglo-Saxon language became "bad." I live in Navajoland where the Dine' fight to preserve the language of their ancestors...as I do mine...
The note I got when I posted said that the messages would be reviewed so thought someone in charge would make a decision on its appropriateness.
So next time, should I have occasion to use the ancient tongue, I'll look for an astrisk...to maintain the decorum of this most wonderful site.

Discrimination and bigotry are not pretty. The awkward stage is frustrating. Sometimes emotions that arise out of having long hair are strong, and strong emotions are expressed with strong words. Here on this board is where we need to discuss those emotions. Asterisks don't deceive anyone; the word is either appropriate or not, and that comes from context. By seeing Medicine Horse's word, I could feel it like his antagonist did, and that is what Medicine Horse wanted. I for one am glad he let us know how he feels.

Yeah, web servers are without feeling, so deciding on words like that is really tough for them. They defer to humans. :-)
Thanks MH, for sharing your feelings. They were empowering.
