Rogaine with long hair

Yes, last year I purchased Rogaine and I am kind of worried if I start using it on my long hair I might lose hair with the first application. The reason I want to use it is because I don't want to experience hair loss. Is it safe with long hair and will I see some hair loss with the first application?
Also, will Rogaine prevent dryness in ends of long hair?
If I drink alcohol while using Rogaine or smoke will there be any side-effects?
Can Rogaine help hair grow faster if a person already has long hair?-Steve

You know I had the same question in mind a while back but I really don't know if it will have sides affects but if it will help long hair grow longer I gotta go get me some of that stuff

i'm in my late 50's. i used rogain when it first came out and thought it helped. then i stopped it for a few years and lost a lot of hair. i've started back on it and propecia. propecia works but it definitely does have sexual side effect (reduced seminal fluid and some lessening of libido) with prolonged use. rogaine primarilly helps with the hair loss on the crown. but it takes at least 2 months before you will see any results. the only problem with rogaine that i have had is it leaves a yellowish stain on my grey hair.

i have done some rogain experimentations actually. (a little embarrasing,) when i was 13 (im 16 now) i decided i wanted to grow a beard sooo bad i figured i would try rogaine on my face. (ok, laugh all you want but theres a moral behind this story,lol.) The stupid bottles are like $40, its insane. i bought one and applied it to my face every morning when i woke up and every night before i went to bed. Within 3 months i had these really thick full sideburns and everyone was very impressed with the 13 year old with a full beard. I eventually ran out and after about a week of not using it my hair on my face started to fall out. not in all places though, it was all blotchy, very unatractive if i didnt shave every morning. eventually i lost it all, included the little bit of hair puberty had given me before i started use. About a year later it started to come back and now i have the normal amount of hair on my face a 16 year old should have. but i could see the same effect on hair, once you start it your gonna have to keep using it, or all your hair falls out. just stay away from it, when your hair goes, it goes. if you really wanna keep your hair that much you should look itno oral medications, although im not sure of any of the side effects.

Check out the Rogaine site or read up on it. The effect is to first have the fine hairs shed (which means that your hair will fall out) then a thicker hair will eventually emerge, but will only remain as long as you use the product) If you stop the product, the hair will fall out and regrow, probably finer than what was there. This product is not for people with normal hair, but with thinning or bald areas. From what I read, DO NOT USE IT if you are not losing hair or going bald. It has nothing to do with increased rate of growth.
