Long hair in a bun
Posted by fightin' frisco on July 11, 2002 at 12:42:24: Previous Next
Hi all,
Well, i work for UPS puttin boxes in trucks and was recently offered a promotion into management. The only catch was that i had to cut my hair. I talked the guy into letting me wear it in a bun. I guess my question is, does anybody know any "manly" ways of wearing your hair in a bun?(eg, so that it doesn't go past my shoulders)

Will they allow you to tuck it up under a hat?

I put my hair in a high ponytail. I then braid the pony tail and wind the braid around the base of the ponytail and pin it down. This is easy to do and looks neat. The result is a braided bun.

well if its just supposed to be above shoulder,, start like you were going to wear a pony tail,, run through once, then on the second or third (depending on tightness of band or thickness of hair) only pull halfway to 3/4's through and stop. It will cause the hair to loop, and should bring it up a bit, unless your hair is like down to your ass. ;)

I am a low manager in an insurance company and I wear a bun opposite my chin almost daily (I do work with a majority of women). Simply twist your ponytail and pin your twisted tail to your head, or wrap your ponytail to your heead with a scrunchie. A bun is efficient, professional and appropraite. Go for it!

Steve,
What line of work are you in? I began wearing a bun after certain comments were made about my hair. Now, people at work only comment-but not negatively-that I look strange without it in a bun.
I wear my hair freely or in any style that is convenient//suitable to my daily surroundings/activities, but at work most always and most neatly and most suitably in a classic bun.

Steve,
I love a bun too. My bun and my earrings have distracted attention from thee length of my hair. Do you work with the public face to face or only via phone/email? Is your boss male or female. The two higher managers I report to are both women, as are my/their collegues. They all like my bun, which I pin athwart my chin. I also wear earrings (fashion) 7 days a week (I wear a bun most of the time), and my earrings are often large button earrings (cheap gold plated or colored plastic) which well accessorize my clothing (and distract attention from my hair.) I have grown to feel so comfortable with large earrings that I wear them on weekends & evenings-at all times but in shower, in bed, & and the phone.

Steve:
Although I am not about to wear buy and wear a pair of high heels or am not about to grow long nails, if you would like to and and can do it be my guest and enjoy them as best as you can.
I really have a love of long hair. I love to pull out hair pins from my bun every evening, and have my hair cascade upon my shoulders. An aunt who raised me also thought I would enjoy earrings. I wear many of her button earrings which she bought back in the eighties. (I do have a few pairs of white large pearl & black large cultured pearl earrings which are so jumbo, that they are obvious-too obvious-with my hair down. I also have large meatal/silver colored/gold plated (cheap) squares, together with jumbo gold disks almost fist size which my aunt bought bought for me in the mid nineties. These earrings are huge even when covered with hair.
Keep growing & enjoy
