A few questions

I posted here a while back and wasn't sure to grow my hair or not but I'm going for it now, I'm 18 and off to uni in september so I thought it would be a good time to start. My hair is about 3 inches long from the top at the moment and layered a bit, I'm having it cut around the back cos I don't want the mullety look while I'm getting to my goal, just below shoulder length
sideburns, is it better to let these bits grow or not? does anyone have any pics of men who've grown the hair there and men who've not for comparison? also how do you tell where the proper hair stops and the facial hair starts? sorry if this doesn't make sense but I'm a little confused on this subject
also, do the cow licks go away? does this happen only when you first grow out your hair cos I don't think I've ever seen someone with long hair that curls back at the ends of the bangs?
one last thing, my hair is straight now apart from the cowlicks, does this mean that it will be straight when it's long or might this change?

Phage, as for the sideburns, I have done both. I normally have a beard, so letting sideburns grow is part of that. However, you will find that the head-hair that runs into side burns stays relatively short and curly, so in order to keep fuzzy sides at bay, I keep the hair just above the sideburns--even with the top of the ear--cut short. This summer I shortened my beard to a goatee, so the sideburns came off and all facial hair trimmed all the way to the top of the ear. It looks very neat that way.
As for cowlicks, they may drive you nuts in the growing out phase, but I think they actually may add some interested once your hair is shoulder length. I do not have cowlicks in front, so I cannot say personally.
Finally, my hair appeared straight when short, but now, at shoulder-shoulder-blade length, it can be quite wavy and in large curls when just washed.

I've read somewhere on this board recently that fly-aways will straighten out the longer you hair gets unless it is a natural inherited curl, which I have none myself. GOOD LUCK and KEEP GROWING!!!!!

I have a bunch of cowlicks, most of them on my bangs, which is the worst place to have them in my opinion (i mean, going into 9 months, my bangs still don't touch my eyebrows if i don't pull them!!) The fly-aways will straighten out but any natural wave is always going to be there, i've seen tons of people with it. The good thing is once it's long it doesn't look bad.

I had this same question a while back, so I started to grow my facial hair real long as my head hair grew. After 6 months I found that the hair on my face grows at a slower rate than the hair on my head. So, it was easier to tell where the head hair starts and the facial hair ends round the ears. I wouldn't say go 6 months without shaving, maybe only 2 months and then shave off anything short near the ears while holding your head hair straight back

Cowlicks tend to stay down as your hair gets heavier and they aren't so noticeable.

Hair gets straighter as it gets longer/heavier-even the hair in cowlicks.
Hope this helps!

heya - 17 here, growing out for a while (maybe half a year? iunno...) i haven't done any cutting (i usually don't anyways...i've always had lots of time between haircuts...i just decided to skip my last one (and all future ones!)
: also, do the cow licks go away?
i'm guessing they do, since i haven't seen 'em in a while...messy hair in the morning, sure, but nothing serious....besides, i've always managed to get rid of cowlicks by wetting my hair COMPLETELY and then letting it dry...
: one last thing, my hair is straight now apart from the cowlicks, does this mean that it will be straight when it's long or might this change?
i used to think my hair was straight, but now i'm seeing a couple waves in it....
best of luck to ya!
