Skinhead Article

The linked article (fairly lengthy) takes a look at the skinhead scene, which may be of interest to people here. The sense of aggression doesn't agree with me, but it was a worthwhile read nonetheless.
The main focus is on ideology and dispelling negative associations.

Yes, it's a great article...but it makes me stop & pause...
If skinheads do not like so-called hippie-types because they believe
that they don't work, etc....how would they treat such a person...when ALONE
with them?
This world is getting to be a scary place!
hooray

The more this truth gets out, the more people will open up their eyes to what some of us have known for much of our lives. I'm glad for the people responsible for that article. Maybe not everyone wants to be a skin or associate with them at all, but at least they can learn the truth before making their decision.
It's the same thing.

It seems that "the hair makes the man." If you don't conform and do what "society" deems acceptible, you are out. Wrong. You have to be like everyone else. There is an acceptible dress, hair cut, and if you don't do what "society" wants, you will be put down and ridiculed.
I love the way they say that "skin-heads" shave their heads to show they aren't "hippies" without jobs. What are "hippies?" Guys (and gals) with long hair? I guarantee that's what they mean by "hippies."
Why does everyone think because a man has long hair he doesn't have a job/want to work? It's stereotyping and wrong. Many times a man CAN'T get a job, no matter how bad or qualified he is, because of his hair.
It isn't the fault of the man with long hair, it's society and stereotyping that makes him unable to be employed.
And, from what I read, it's just as hard for a man with a shaved head.
What's wrong with society?
I'm in America. It's supposed to be "the land of the free and home of the brave." But, instead, it's "the land of you'd better do what we tell you to or you won't survive...we won't let you. Conform or else."

Aha, you've debunked the myth. Land of the free, indeed. Nice idea in principle - doesn't work in practice though...something to do with human nature.
My thoughts on the article were similar - here is a group that wishes to be free of prejudicial stereotypes then promptly indulges in stereotyping another group....
And as for patriotism....like religion it is a tool used by the unscrupulous to manipulate the unthinking. A true patriot should always start asking awkward questions when the word patriotism creeps into the agenda.

I thought that this point would be raised more than once - the 'hippy' part of the article was what undermined the skinhead argument for me.
A fuller definition of a 'hippy' would've been interesting.

Should that be the case then it's really a sad situation. They complain about being descriminated against while they do the same to those that don't live by THEIR rules. Now what's wrong with this picture, hmmm?
Their way of thinking won't change because lack of hair lets radiation through which causes braindamage (I'm being sarcastic, btw).
LOL!
