No advice for your curly hair except keep growing! The half-tail is great, I wish I could do that. Thanks for the update.

Thanks, G. I'm surprised you can't half-tail...your hair looks like it's around the same length as mine, no?

My hair is the same length as yours except for the bangs which started very short and seem to be growing just a bit slower than the back. On the plus side I can glue my hair into a ponytail with a lot of gel. Anyway, you're doing well sticking with it. I don't see many guys with long curly hair.

better...much better...in my opinion.
Good Luck!

Yes, the longer hair does make you look younger as it does myself. MANY people say long hair will make you look much older (when going for a haircut which I never do). But so far I haven't seen concrete evidence.........quite to the contrary. When I was a FOOL about a year and 1/2 ago and got a very short (not quite buzz) haircut it added at least 10-15 years age to me. Hideous! The minute I saw it I wanted to throw-up and vowed to never get a haircut again. (Perhaps a "trim" of 1/8" after 3 years is up.) Now suddenly I hear comments: "How do you stay so young looking?" And yes, I too look completely different now, and in my opinion all for the better. Your hair looks great! Good luck growing it longer.

It is VERY ODD. . .but SOME (just SOME) guys DO look younger when getting
a short haircut...
not necessarily a buzzcut, but...hmmmm...sort of like a 'little boys' haircut.
wHILE other GUYS do LOOK much older. iT'S STRANGE, to say the least.
Anyway, MOST of the men on this site do look younger & better with longer hair.
No doubt it has something to do with the fact that 'older' guys do not
USUALLY have LONG hair...and so that it is associated
more with the young...(well, maybe that's why).
You had a buzzcut about a year and a half ago? Well, THAT puts you at
the 18 month mark...
which equals about 9 inches of growth...
which means you are officially a LongHair!
Congratulations, then...and...
Good Luck!

Thanks so much...........and you are correct exactly at the 9" mark. But for myself, there are still some strays that can't quite make it into the Ponytail. Really no big deal. But by 2004 things should be in place but good! And yes, correct again. The "older-younger" thing isn't straight across the board, but I think the Longhair for the most part usually wins. All the best!

Well, I think we all have some of those damned 'strays'...
Right now I am taming them with L'Oreal Liquid SPRAY Gel.
It has different ingredients not found in the MELTing Gel so
it perfectly compliments it.
The Spray gel has no alcohol but it is a bit stickier & stiffer than
the MELTing Gel...
and so it is especially good at holding down those strays and shorter hairs.
I also use a hair pin (well hidden, of course) to hold the worst offenders!
When you think of the distance the 'bang' or 'fringe hairs have to travel
you will appreciate just HOW much time it takes to grow it to a length
that will reach THE TAIL! And since the head is round, the distance is even greater.
Haven't measured it, but if it is 12inches, then that is two years!
So for now I will appreciate the long hairs and tolerate those
that are busy 'catching up'!

As always, you have the greatest wisdom and ideas. So glad you contribute to this board so often. I am sure ALL the others who watch and contribute to this site appreciate your most valuable in-put. Some of the "length thing" I think can also be blamed on the size of a persons head. For some it takes longer........others shorter. Luckily, my growth rate is at the normal 1/2" with a slight + edge to it. Ha ha ha........I have (and still do) use hairpins which are about impossible to see just to hold things together. But it is easy to see that they are coming to an end as my hair continues to grow. Alas, the Melting gels I have never found, so have traveled the whole road "natural." Straight hair is lucky......BUT.........it isn't straight for a long time when it hits the shoulders. For a while there, they could have called me "Curly." Not the 3 stooges one......but perhaps the brains of his? :-) Believe it or not, the "strays" in my case is the hair that grows a little above the ears and lower. All I can think is that in my case the growth rate for these hairs must be slower. But with all said.........I am SO HAPPY with "LONGHAIR!" I will grow it to terminal length. Hope you are having a nice eving Luckskind. Thanks again.

Interesting observation, LK; thanks! I think the change in appearance may have more to do with the substantial weight loss, change in physical lifestyle, healthier eating, change of location, career and sunnier outlook on life.
But it COULD be the hair. ;-)

I'm surprised no one else mentioned the weight loss. That was the first thing I noticed, and I kept going back and forth among the pictures saying "That can't be the same person!" Wow, I'm impressed.

Well that too.... :-) Icing on the cake, as they say. Whoops, no cake for you! Keep up the great work.

It dried tied back. I think it had Loreal Melting Gel in it that day, but it's from being pulled straight while it dried. I also was in the sun all week last week, which is why it looks lighter in color/highlighted.
What a transformation !

I just want you guys to konw that I LOVE this site and I'm very glad I came across it. I'm a woman and I have found that long-haired men tend to have more confidence and patience b/c they have to deal w/ looks/questions from others fairly often. Everybody's hair looks great, but Dan, HAVE MERCY...please don't ever cut it (and I'm not-so-secretly wishing you're also hetero and single, but I'll settle for scanning the board every now and then for pics)!
