Sure, go to a stylist and tell them that you aren't trying to grow your hair long and you want a trendy haircut so you can look just like someone else.
Here we encourage guys to grow their hair long even if it's just to try it out so they can see what their hair does. Since everyone's hair tends to be different just like their bodies and faces, trying to look like your favorite pop star of the moment is a futile excercise and does very little towards developing yourself and your own unique look.
Lots of guys come here asking the same thing and they are usually looking to be like some trendy music star with a short hair style.
How about just letting it grow indefinately and see what happens? You might like it.

Almost every post of your's is worthless. There's no point in making comments like this, it accomplishes nothing and further shows what an asshole that you are. Yes, you have very long hair and you like it it a lot. We get it. Know that:
A) that doesn't make you better than anyone else
B) that doesn't give you the right to belittle people who want to style their hair differently.
grow up.

Hair Religion, do you get into these arguments like every month or what? I remember not so long ago I made a similar comment, (although not quite as harsh) and you didn't take it too lightly. It was damn near this exact same kind of post too. Just wondering. It'll be fun seeing someone else getting yelled at now.

Ya, like I said before, you will see it again and again. Some people just don't like to hear certain things and in the impersonal world of the keyboard it can become something that is read in an entirely different way than it was written, usually due to reading too quickly or, on the other side, typing without proofreading.
If I were all these things that a few people have tried to impulsively lable me with then they would be able to back up what they say and they never ever have. Speaks for itself but I do like to respond if for nothing else but to show others on the board how not to let this board become trashed by b.s. Most of these occurances are eventually followed by an acknowledgment that their reaction was inappropriate.
But I am not going to stop contributing just to avoid these kind of baseless attacks. It's easy to stay out of the line of fire from directions unseen but that's not what online boards are about.
Thanks for paying attention though! ; )

Hey I Dont think of anyone here on the board as negitive as you point them out to be. There just friendly people with a little extra time to help you out with your hair problems. And is that a way to repay them for their advice and kindness??

Uh, I think that you are trying to direct that to vineswingman. He was the one saying that all my posts are negative, worthless, unrespected, belittling, or somehow show that I think that I am better than other people because I have long hair. He is a newbie just like yourself and I am the one who has been giving good and helpful advice on this board for years. His bizarre assesment of my presence on the board couldn't be further from the truth. I did think that it was a poor way to repay my "advice and kindness" (as you put it) to longhairs and hopeful longhairs on this board. But what you will find over time is that there are lots of young people getting on the net who want to participate on chat boards but have a very long way to go in their communication skill development.
Have you had time to mull over some of your original thoughts on hair styles yet?

You know, as I think about it, it may have to do a lot with my screenname. I think that it might "scare" some people and actually make others mad...for different reasons. I've gotten different reactions from people but most of them and the strong ones seem to come from newbees or people new to the board.
It wasn't designed to do this and there isn't anything in it that should cause this effect but if that is what is happening then it's a matter of their perceptions/reactions which none of us have any control over.
I suppose that some folks think that with a name like Hair Religion I must be boasting or something but that's just not the case and if they would read a little farther they would know that.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Yes. I am new to having a computer & being on the internet, and only a couple of weeks ago discovered these sites for long-haired men.
First of all, I am GRATEFUL for any place that encourages/supports men growing & keeping their hair long. Three years ago I cut my waist-length hair short, which devestated me to the point of needing therapy in order to get past my greiving. Now that it has at least returned to mid-back length, I once again identify with "being" a longhair (as opposed to "wannabe"!). When I first came upon Hair Religion's site, I felt put off because something in the tenets insinuated that my hair was not yet long ENOUGH to take growing my hair out "seriously". I later returned to read more carefully what Hair Religion had to say, and am glad to say my second impression corrected my first. Printed communication is a tricky thing. It takes great care & skill to convey ideas right the first time. But it also takes care & skill for the reader to listen!

Hey, thanks for saying so. I've tried to put a lot of thought into what I say on my site.
I've had a few comments before about the tenents but my purpose was to establish a complete set for extreme hair growth which encompasses all the things needed for growing long hair; i.e. time, patience, goals, committment and even age. If a religion is a way to live your life then what sort of hair religion can you expect to have for yourself if you grow it out a few inches and then cut it again over and over?
It's a learning experience to grow hair long and like learning just about anything is also can help you to grow as an individual. The tenents are a goal to shoot for (if you choose) and merely illustrate what you are doing when you are growing your hair long...that is letting your body do what it does naturally by growing hair ever longer.
I think that some people skip a great deal of things in my posts/site so it's good to hear from someone who takes the time to digest what they read. Good to have you with us!

Feel free to tell me how all my posts are worthless...in detail...I bet you can't. If you can't then maybe you should go away.
Can you tell me what the name of this board is? I'll be you can but it if you do it will back up my previous post and bring into question why you feel the need to bash one of the longtime helpful contributers to this board...me.
Then please tell us all how my growing my hair automatically makes me have to think that I'm better than everyone else despite zero evidence of that in any of my posts dating years back or anything like that on my website. I'll bet you can't...AGAIN!
And maybe you can also tell us all how my encouraging someone (on a longhair board) to grow their hair longer is somehow belittling or how informing an obivously young person that as they start making their own decisions about things like their looks, it is better not to copy someone that everyone else is copying but rather to develop your own look according to what your body does, somehow qualifies as a "worthless" post. If that is how you think then maybe you should be yelling at yourself, eh?
Did you even look at the picture that the post was about? Does that seem like a picture of longhair to you? I am quite familiar with that style and if you have ever watched MTV or VH1 you would be to as the singer that sports that haircut has videos on those stations where the style can be seen from all angles. That style is almost exactly like many of the short styles of the '80's new wave bands...if you have recall that goes back that far. And that is one of the problems with short, trendy styles...they keep coming back every several years unlike longhair styles which take perseverence and dedication to achieve. This is why we here on the "men's longhair hyperboard" strive for longhair and encourage those who come here a longhair board to grow their hair longer. There are many newbees who have no experience yet with this and need to be told things they need to know. You will see this again and again if you spend any time at all here reading and contributing.
But don't try slaming veteran members of this board just because you are frustrated. That happens every so often here and really gets old.

I think that it's great that you think everyone should grow their hair to maximum length and see how they like it. But you can suggest it in much more positive ways. Your posts are so negative, and that's not going to encourage anyone to do anything but blow your suggestions off. Just try being a bit more friendly, especially with new board members. You'd be surprised at how much more people will respect you.

Ok, you've had an entire week to justify the lies you said about me and you haven't even bothered to try, which is what I predicted would be the result because there is nothing behind your opinion of me. You haven't shown us how my post are worthless, negative, unrespected, belittling, or somehow show that I think that I am better than other people because I have long hair. You really stuck your foot in your mouth! I guess that your age is showing.
You told me to "grow up" but let's see if you are grown up enough to apologize for calling me an "asshole", apparently for no reason at all except poor reading skills on your part.
I wasn't real suprised to see in a later post how short your hair is, after the way you slandered me I expected it. It's hard to tell if it's out of pure jealously that you did this or just a certain rage against others who have accomplished what you haven't shown the patience to achieve yet, which "some" newbies who show up here seem to have. If it has something to do with a "rebel" personality who wants to grow his hair the you will have to learn not to take that defiant attitude too far as you have done here. Most of us here don't grow our hair long because we are trying to rebel against our parents (or whoever), you'll find that longterm hair growth takes better personal reasons than that.
If you don't apologize and try to just ignore the end of this thread then you are just undermining your own credibility with all the others on this board, because anyone who has spent any decent amount of time reading here already knows that I don't match the derogatory description you posted of me.

Calling Hair Religion's posts worthless is a little out of line. Ok, his reply might've been a little blunt but that's the way it is. It's almost a bi-weekly routine; someone wants to look like his idol and asks how he can achieve that particular look. That's not really what this board is about; it's about growing LONG hair. If it's a question about a certain style, especially one that's hight maintenance, then perhaps a styling board should be addressed.

1) I have no clue about your hair type & what you're actually working with nor if your face shape is suitable for this look. This guy probably not only has his hair cut and products galore, but he may well color his hair too.
2) The hair type is straight with the ability to curl a little. In other words, not too fine.
3) It's a layered cut, side part with plenty of gel for it to hold shape. So you'd have to grow to about chin / shoulder length & then be willing to have your hair cut in layers to get the lift.
4) See a salon professional who can tell you all about it & what products work best to hold the shape, body & lift throughout a given day.

5) he has the ends thinned, that is within a given layer, they use a straight blade or side of a scissor blade to thin the strands thickness near the ends so it isn't heavy and doesn't weigh down upon a lower & subsequent layer.
6) this style is a bit high maintenance so be prepared for visits at least about every 8 weeks, possibly 6 weeks, with about week 4 looking just about right whereas the other weeks looking either a tad too short or a tad too long (especially near the end when it will tend to lay a little flatter due to hair growth). this will require money for the hair care products, probably including a blow dryer & attachments, the upkeep of the hair coloring and the cutting; I would estimate this to be a minimum of a $70 visit at the salon probably over $100 if doing cutting & coloring at the same time, not including tip (and always tip your salon professional unless they majorly blow it!!). naturally, the cost can vary widely depending on where you go.
7) do go to a more upscale salon that has experience cutting hair into these styles. I do suggest interviewing different salon professionals to determine their ability and get a feel for the consensus for your hair's ability to have this look
8) regarding face shape: it is considered by the model/entertainment industry that hair is a frame for the face, thus, a given style should set off someone's face to its best look. in this way, many people do go in with a picture of a look they want and do not understand how a given style can set off features more, or less attractively, and therefore not realize that the cut they like in the picture is really not their best look possible. in that context, it might be relevant, if the salon professional (and they have places that take your picture and then show you what a given cut would look like on you from front and side view) deems this style not suitable for your face shape to alter the cut a bit to accommodate your best features.
Some things to think about and a word of caution to be careful what you wish for, heidi w. (from TLHS) although I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. If it makes your socks roll up and down, then by all means, go for it!

Your hair needs to be stick straight. If it has any wave or curl, don't even think about it. It's cut with lots of layers, almost chunkily-feathered. Highlights and product. Very high maintainence and expensive.

i like the style you want to have. it is similar to my own.
how you get to that style depends on what you are starting with. if your hair is close to his length, good. if not, you gotta let it grow.
second, what type of hair do you have? is it straight? curly? kinky? if your hair has any wave or curl to it, you may have to use a flat iron to get it to look like his. i have used one for close to two years now, and contray to many opinions, they do NOT damage your hair IF you know how to use them correctly. you can damage your hair quickly if you do not use them properly. a good salon will teach you how to use one correctly.
third, what color is your hair now? his has highlights and low lights in it...meaning some of the hair hash been bleached, and some if it has been darkened.
his hair looks great....that's the goo-goo dolls guy right?
good luck!

It sounds very high maintenance to me. Good salons are not cheap...I have easily dropped upwards of $250 for highlighting and a cut. Plus the bleach is awful for your hair, not to mention that repeated flat ironing is very damaging. Just a caveat, but if it's something you want to do, by all means. If you prefer look over health and texture, then go for it. Just my two cents.
