Maintenance cuts,not needed?

Right,my mom (I'm 15) is bugging me all the time because she wants me to get maintenance cuts.
I have jaw length hair,it looks fine at the moment (though really thick and curly),and I really don't want fancy looking stylish "in" hair (which I'm afraid a hairdresser would try to give me,and maybe she and my mom would plot against me to cut a LOT of it off),just plain long hair, nothing fancy, just long dammit. :P
Will I be alright without these maintenance cuts?

I have been growing my hair a year and 9 months or thereabouts I think. I have not had a single maitenance cut. I love my hair just the way it is. You do not need maitenance cuts.

Depends.
Some people begin to look absolutely awful as they approach the unmanagable stage, and decide to get it trimmed so it doesn't look as bad. Others encounter split ends and such and decide to get a little bit taken off.
But don't do it cause your mom says so.
Do what you want to! Rebel!

This reason just doesn't cut (no pun intended) it for me. Once the hair grows back you'll be back at that stage where you cut it off in the first place.

If your hair is healthy and you're trying to grow it long, then there's no reason whatsoever to have a maintenance cut. It's pure B$. You have jaw length hair, which is a milestone. BTW, should your mom plot against you with the hairdresser then you might as well shave off your hair yourself because hairdressers are notorious for cutting off more hair then initially requested. These people just don't LISTEN.

To say that all stylists don't know what they are doing, and to assume that all they want to do is CHOP it ALL off, is like saying all LONG hair guys are loosers! Generalizations are wrong and small minded. To keep your hair even and looking like you care is not wrong. Allowing a good stylist to even the ends may be good for you. At 15 peace at home may be worth the 1/4 inch to even out your growth. Don't fall into the conspiricy mode found rampid on this board. Be a man and make the decition yourself!
MOST STYLISTS DO WHAT YOU ASK. MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HOW TO ASK!
Best of luck

Hmmm ... In that case there must be a lot of people who don't know how to ask. I find that a little hard to believe. It's happened to me a couple of years ago and trust me, I specifically asked for a CERTAIN amount to be trimmed off. I'm articulate and I repeated several times how much I needed trimmed off. But they always take that amount and multiply it by a factor of X (X == what the hairdresser has programmed in her brain). Now I truly believe that there are good hairdressers out there, don't get me wrong, but they seem to be far and between. At least in my experience.

I can't resist questions about hairdressers (or anything for that matter ^_^)
I used to think that maintenance cuts were absolutely necessary (my mind was poisoned by Glamour), but being here on this board and listening to what the guys have to say, I realize that you really shouldn't trim unless your ends are all broken and dry. It's a waste of money because most hairdressers charge you full price to take maybe 1/2" off your length. It's BS.
I agree with Devon. Unfortunately, some hairdressers can be very stubborn and will cut your hair the way they want to unless you're VERY insistent. Tell them exactly what you want, several times if you have to. Watch them carefully in the mirror and if they look like they're going to start chopping more than they should, SPEAK UP! And don't worry, I don't think your mom will plot against you to chop your hair off. If she specifically said "maintenance cuts", not "get a haircut NOW!", then you don't have anything to worry about.
