This could be a GREAT idea...

Well I was sitting in one of my classes and I had a great idea. Well one of the tricks to use to keep your hair down as its in the akward stage is to wear a hat while it's damp and keep it on for a long time... Now I got a lot of stuff to do and I don't always have time for this sort of thing. But I usually wear a baseball cap after I'm done showering to keep my hair down, I'm just tired of taking the time for this. But then I thought- what if one was to put a hat on so it would shape their hair how they want it, but then blowdry their hair through the hat? Now I know most of you are firmly against using a blowdryer but if it was done with a baseball cap or other hat on maybe it wouldn't be that damaging. I mean the reason our hair gets so poofy in the akward stage is because the air takes up on the hair where water was after it dries. So maybe by quickly making it dry while it is nicely put down would be a good idea? Let me know what you guys think. I am a poor college student and strapped for cash, so I don't know when I can get my hands on a blowdryer, so unfortunately I can't test it out quite yet. But hopefully it will work!

I don''t want to straighten it, thats the thing. Plus I don't have the time of day or energy to sit running a straightener through my hair

Using a hair straigtener would take about equal time as using a blowdryer...possibly less.

No way, a blowdryer would only take like 2 minutes on my 4 inch hair

In order for that heat to get through the cap, one would have to put the hairdrier on a very high setting. This would both burn the hairs that escape from under the hat and probably get the hat itself quite warm. I just don't see this idea working.....

Well my hat is pretty thin so it wouldn't take much for the heat to get through. I don't think that will be a problem.

I still say air drying is the best way. I walk around with my hair wet all day long...it's especially fun in the winter when it freezes (Potsdam winter average temp is about -10 to -15 degrees F). It makes your hair super straight, but I don't know about the long term effects...I only did it once ^_^

I don't think the blow dryer would work through the hat. Basically it would just warm your hair but the water couldn't evaporate because of the hat. Maybe a better idea would be to put it in a pony-tail and let it air dry.
OTOH, alot of women after a shower make a turban out of a towel and let their hair dry in it. I'm told (by female friends) this is the best way as air drying makes hair curl and blow drying makes it dry out.

heh heh, I would do that, except my hair is only 4 inches long... no ponytail for me
I've been thinking on this.

Sid,
As a college student I am guessing you are around a lot of girls who own hairdryers. I bet one of them would loan you theirs for this experiment. If you don't know any, this is a perfect opportunity to meet some.
Another possibility is to wear the hat for longer while your hair dries. Perhaps take it off after getting to campus or by the second class that day. I hope you find a solution that gets you the look you are after.
