I'm not one for mullets myself, but I have mad respect for anyone who dares have one today.
Anyway, look for a mullet pic you like, and get it done like that.

Actually the Mullet's coming back...tons of people on England have designer mullets now...Mullets are cool in a kitschy way. It's not my way, but having said that I'm a fan of the undercut so what do I know?

Well, I don't necessarily recommend this method, but I got my mullet in 3 stages. My hair was all one length, about 4 inches past my shoulders. I had bangs cut, then about two months later I got my bangs cut much shorter, then at my next cut, I went all the way, and got the sides really short. I love it. It's a really great way to wear long hair. It doesn't fall in my eyes, so I can wear it without having to tie it up in a pony tail.

Cheers,

Perhaps gather several photos of Mullets you like and take them to the Salon where you are going to have your hair cut and styled. A photo will help a real lot. But please..........BEWARE! Check out who is going to do this to you carefully 1st. Find out who is exceptional in your area............just don't let someone you don't know about mess with your hair to save yourself a pontential disaster. Good Luck.

...a "mini" mullet when I was growing my hair out in the beginning and I actually got quite a few compliments! As far as growing the Billy Ray Cyrus mullet your interested in, just grow the back out...it's easier that way. Why deal with the awkward stage on your whole head when you could just deal with the back? The logic of this makes me wonder whether this was a sincere post, but I'll assume so.

Hi FITMUS,
Just curious. How was this "Mini Mullet" achieved, (cut) and what did it look like? Perhaps an actual "Long Hair" with the Mullet disguised so well NOBODY would even know? Hair all hanging straight? I ask because I believe I just may have seen something on this order and it looked, (to myself anyway) teriffic!
All the best-
Justin

...Justin. Well, the mullet kind of just fell in place when I started growing out. I almost had a buzz cut when I started back in July 2002, so as my hair grew out, the back was naturally longer than the sides and front. One day I looked in the mirror and voila...mullet! I grew up in the 80's, so I did have a mullet growing up. Having the mullet again felt kind of good. Over time, I cut my back a bit here and there to catch up to my sides and front, so I haven't had it for about a year. I'll see if I have a pic of when I did have the 'mini' mullet (I say 'mini' as compared to the full on Billy Ray Cyrus or Joe Elliot from Def Leppard mullet). If so, I'll post it. :)

Hey FITMUS!
Thank you so much for writing. I grew-up in the late 60's-70's and well remember the Mullet of those years. Usually I disliked it, and back then had the "normal all-over" Long Hair myself..........but even then, there were a number of exceptions where I thought the Mullet looked fabulous! (Most probably because it had some "style" to it and was CLEAN!) If done well, I still believe it is a rather "electric way" for a guy to wear his hair! If I had not been so far along as I am now with 11"+ growth (and am in hopes of obtaining waist-length hair), what I saw several days ago I most likely would have gone-for to carry me through the "Awkward Stage." It took me by surprise, and in my opinion had real class!!! From what I could tell, the guy had an extremely slight undercut.........NOT SEVERE in the slighest. Yes, the Bangs in the front were shorter.......but that was changable depending on what he did or how the wind blew. It made the hair that hung down beautifully look much nicer than any awkward stage. Length in the back was nearly mid-back. It almost appeared that overall the hair had been thinned? (Still a mystery to myself.) But whatever he had done it was apparent that he could do about ANYTHING with his long hair with just a swish of the hand which would instantly create another new look. And EVERY LOOK was an A+! One of the most "magical things" I have ever witnessed. In short, whatever he had had done was an "all-win" that seemed impossible to get a bad look with. I am calling it a Mullet as it seems to run along those lines...........but there is some form of variation that eludes me giving a written description because I don't know how to put it into words. Would love to see your pics. Perhaps you did to your hair what I am talking about? Again, thanks so much for writing back. Hope you are enjoying a nice evening. All the best-
Justin~
You're Very Welcome

Do yourself a favor, just grow it all out.
Many years ago I had a mullet, very short in the front and
on the sides, almost waist length in the back. No matter how
I explained it I could never get the concept through the thick
skulls of the hair care professsionals.
After much agravation i gave up and grew all my hair out
to waist length.
I liked the style, I hated the difficulty of getting the
hair care people to follow the concept. It really was
a simple concept, the hair care people treated it like
I was trying teach advanced math.

Almost seems like most of the "Hair Care People" lack common sense and are a bunch of brainless wits. Alas! If lucky, it IS POSSIBLE to find a "natural" that is artistic to begin with and doesn't go "by the book." THEY are far and few between.........but if you ever find one your worries will be over. But, let's face it, they were born with a unique ability that cannot be taught. Kind of like Mozart Composing at the age of 3 before having any lessons. He didn't need any! Just born with the ability. ALL of the greats in any area seem to materialize this way. The others go by the "books."

I had a mullet for years, and that cut really worked for me.
In my experience, it always looked best when I cut it myself!
You can do it. Just for the top and sides slide your hair through your fingers and trim, little by little.
The back looks great as it lengthens, and you just need to have a friend trim up the ends.
Mine was to my mid back, and quite sexy if I do say so myself.
Do it!
