Alice bands/general accessories

hi.
Im currently growing my hair out and Im about seven months into it.
The question is have, would you or what is your opinion of guys wearing alice bands. Plus would you wear it outside as I think a thin black one would look cool when my hair is longer it would also help while growing my hair out.
Also what about other general accessories such as bar clips, etc.. what is considered too much (girlish) or is it really up to the person.
Thanks

...is an "Alice band"? As far as feminine, I suppose arguments could be made that all hair accessories are feminine since women have traditionally worn them much more than men.
Personally, I wear small scrungi's (sp?) and metalless elastics in or out of the home. During my more difficult times while I was in the awkward stage, I've even worn butterfly clips and other types of more "feminine" clips, but I didn't wear those out of the house.
Generally speaking, I think the accessories you see men wear out in public are less feminine than the accessories you don't see them wear out in public (butterfly clips, head bands, etc, you don't really see). If society changes, so does the term "feminine". Long hair in and of itself could be considered "feminine" because there are a supermajority of women that have long hair then men. But let's say one day a majority of men have long hair and it's been that way for a while, long hair would probably not have the same "feminine" stereotype. The same goes for hair accessories. In other words, if we started seeing a good many guys wearing hair clips, they too would probably loose the "feminine" label after a while. Earrings are a prime example of a feminine accessory gone universal. As society changes, so does that label.

As far as I know, an Alice band is another name for headband, think Alice in Wonderland style in Tenniel's illustrations.
I think accessories get placed in categories more by style than type or function. My own tastes run towards the children's department at times and the accessories have a specific look to them. Should one of the kids at school try to tell me I am wearing kids' stuff I happily inform then that anybody can wear purple dangly sparkly clips or some such fun item. The same applies equally well to a tradionally female accessory on a male.

I once knew a guy with shoulder-length hair, who often wear a bandana in a position identical to how an alice band is worn. I liked the look, but never tried it myself. As for my opinion, I certainly wouldn't object to trying one on. If I think it looks good, and it feels comfortable, I might even be willing to wear it in public.

I think they look fine depending on the individual. On some guys they look great. Generally speaking the guys I've known to wear Alice Bands (the thick fabric sort not the think plastic kind) wear them much further forward on the forehead than most girls. So that it closer resembles a sweatband I suppose.
It's all about what you think suits you babe. :)

Seeing your post prompted me do a Google on the question. The links I found kept referring to a Snooker player named David Beckham, who apparently has a thing for Alice bands, so I did an image search for his name and found this pic:
After seeing this, I've concluded that, personally, I think they look stupid on us. Nevertheless, they're apparently pretty popular among men in Britain, namely because of Beckham's endorsement of them as a convenient way of keeping hair out of one's face. It actually looks like a very practical hair accessory for guys with hair that is a bit too short to put in a ponytail but long enough to be unruly. I just think that it's unfortunate that while he is such a great positive example of a man with long hair, the film only shows him with a buzz cut. :-( We definately need some more postitive long hair examples here in the States. I saw Paul hunter (snooker player) wear an alice band a couple of weeks ago on TV and I must admit it did suit him. They are practical and I think they need to be marketed more in britain as a hair accesory for men in the future.

Ummmm, well, speaking only for myself...
I could never get away with wearing an 'Alice Band' because, quite frankly,
I would end up just looking like an Alice.
It would be nice if they could come up with a more 'masculine'
version of an alice band....perhaps a slightly different shape
or angle?
And if they did, one thing is for sure: they would make lots and lots of money!
