Mom wants me to have long hair
Posted by Jaime on February 26, 2004 at 15:51:02: Previous Next
Hi all,
I'm 15 and my mom is a hairstylist (very convenient lol). She cuts my hair.
I think my mom likes me to have long hair because she can do more with it then with short hair. Up until I was 12 I had very long hair about mid-back length. Since I have straight blond hair I was mistaken for a girl all the time. I didn't really care tho because I liked having long hair, its fun.
Well lately I have had my hair in a buzz, but about 6months ago when I asked her to cut it she told me to grow it out again. She says she wants me to wear it like a grown out bowlcut that goes down to my shoulders. Sort of like a bob I guess? Right now it is down to my eyes and covers most my ears.
Problem is all my friends have short hair and I don't know if I am up for having long hair again. Its sort of strange to be the only boy with hair that long.

long hair is coming back in style, once your hair gets a little longer it will be more accepted probably, but do what you want, not what your mom wants you to do, or what your friends want you to do. I actually inspired one of my friends to start growing out his hair when none of my other friends had it.

It's interesting that you say that. I've actually inspired several WOMEN I know to re-grow their long hair after cutting it short for a while.

Well, its your choice, of course. But I believe if you choose to grow it long again, you'll find you've got plenty of company. I'm seeing many young guys growing theirs all the time. Just today driving past the HS on my way home from community college I saw about a dozen guys with longer than average hair, and a couple of them had it down to their shoulders already.
*Sigh* I'm 20, and when I was in HS I took so much abuse for growing my hair (everyone else was doing the buzz thing). I bet it'd be cool to be 15 or 16 and growing it long now!

Sadly, it's not. As far as I can tell, being fifteen or sixteen and having long hair is just as uncool now as it was for you. I spend my days praying that long hair is coming back into fashion, so that I'll be ahead of the times.

: I think my mom likes me to have long hair...
This marks the first post I've ever seen where the PARENT *WANTS* their kid to have long hair, and the KID *DOESN'T*.
LOL!

Well, I'm the same. I keep trying to talk my 9 yr. old into letting it grow out. But, he likes it better short so he doesn't have to comb it. *sigh*
And I came home from class last week to find my 4 yr. old daughter with her first hair cut. She didn't do a bad job overall...it could have been worse. I still went into shock. I sat down to remove my shoes and the first thing I noticed was that she had bangs... =:-O
Go for it!

I think its boring to be like everyone else and doing what all do, we would be clones ;-)you would be not an outsider with long hair, you would be individual, thats good! Go for it!!

Guess it all boils down to this: What do you desire for yourself?

As long as you want to, then go for it! My mom likes that I grew my hair long. She's no hairstylist, but ever since my sister moved out, she hasn't had any long hair to mess with. :D
It just makes it so much easier when your parent(s) WANT you to do something that you also want to do.
then go get it cut at a barbershop

you shouldn't let your mom decide on what cut you should have, I'm pretty sure at 15 you can save up enough $$ to afford your own haircut.
a good way to do this is arrange it so your with a freind when there perants take them to the barbershop.
good luck in getting what you want, no matter what it is.

Haha! Don't worry about it, mate.
I went through about 3 years of high school as the only guy in the school with long hair!
It didn't help that 99% of the people there were ignorant as hell, but I am not easily offended, and they didn't physically hurt me (I would have killed them he hee!), so I wasn't bothered.
I'm assuming people where you live are more open-minded, so do what you like with your hair. As has already been said, it is about what you want.

Hi,
How lucky you are that your mom is a hairdresser.
You should let your mom style your hair the way she likes.
It sounds like she knows what she is doing.
I bet you looked adorable with long hair. How did your mom do it for you? What styles did she try?
The ideaa of a bowl cut sounds really cute to me. I would try it.
