In praise of a trim
Posted by GraemeJ on August 03, 2002 at 08:14:02: Previous Next
Hi,
After 18 months since my last hair cut, and many recurring doubts that I should get a trim, I finally submitted to the urge yesterday. And I have to say that they did a good job. They only trimmed what I asked for, and in general in looks a better shape (especially at the back where it was very curly).
Now I can continue growing for the next 18 months :)

But 18 months is a long time in between trims. The key is to find a trusted stylist who will just do "dusting" trims and look for splits.
I get mine trimmed every 12 weeks. I don't like the long, nasty, greasy hair look a lot of guys have. Too many long haired guys seem to have long hair just for the sake of it being long. They just don't care how it looks. That alone gives the rest of us a bad name.
I included a pic to prove that hair will still grow with proper trims.

These instructions are for Netscape: Heres how the pic is viewable: Right click [or hold down the Mac mouse] on the broken image link. Click "Copy Image Location". Paste that into your address bar and hit enter. VWALA!
But if you are in MicroSoft InterNet Exploder, then right-click or hold-down (depending on your computer) the mouse button on the X-icon and select Properties. You should copy the image location there.
Don't know why you can't see the image

I've tried it several times, it always shows. Are you guys using an old browser? I use the most recent Netscape...no problems.
I included a link. Maybe that will help?

Ditto.
Back in May of this year I wound up sitting in a haircut salon for the first time in several years. I told my stylist exactly what I wanted and that is exactly what I got.
He trimmed off the very last half to one inch of hair across the breadth of my mane and thereby evened everything out. The difference was marked. Now my mane looks much fuller and substantial. It also looks neater and more well kept - and this, from just cleaning up the ends a bit.
All I shed for this was one or two months worth of growth (assumming the standard 1/2 inch per month) that have now been replaced. I was very pleased with the results and will most likely seek to repeat this - next year!

So, I see! Not bad! But some who have had it trimmed STRAIGHT ACROSS have complained about a TRIANGLE HEAD. (In case you don't know what that is, that's when the hair is cut straight across like the BASE of a triangle!)

When done properly, the hair might curl up a bit due to less weight. (Is this the "awkward" stage?) But I wonder if people want to TRIM off the CURLS? Do people think that FLUFF is AWKWARD? Are there some who would rather have LIMP hair hanging down STRAIGHT?

I go to a hair studio (in the greater Chicago area) that specializes in LONG HAIR every two+ to three months. My stylist is a guy who has long hair and knows exactly what my "mission" is - I think it's his too. Anyhow, I get microtrims which are no more than 1/8" and I get my neck hairs clipped and shaped up. When I leave I feel good and look good. I believe the true key is in finding someone you can trust, someone who will listen to you and someone who embraces the concept of long hair. My hair has never been this long in my life.
