Universal Hate of the long hairs. Why?

WHY IS IT THAT SO MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO LOOK DOWN ON LONG HAIR MEN. I AM CURRENTLY IN GRADUATE SCHOOL AND AM VIEWED BY EVEN A FEW PROFESSORS AS BEING STRANGE. I KEEP IN VERY GOOD SHAPE. BEEN WORKING OUT AND RUNNING SINCE I WAS 17, I AM NOW 47. YET I SEE THESE DWEEBS WITH THEIR BIG YUPPY GUTS AND THEIR POIDECTER HAIR CUTS AND SOMEHOW THEY ARE THE QUINTESSENTIAL CITIZENS AND MEN. WHAT A WHACKED WORLD WE LIVE IN.JUST FIT THE PART AND WALK THE WALK AND YOU CAN BE A COMPLETE SCUM INSIDE.

I hear that totally. I'm in senior year of high school, and have had hair past my shoulders for two years. I'm a pretty sociable, witty, well-liked and respected guy, but girls are always turned off by the hair. Yet they go swarm around the doofuses with their boring Eminem haircuts. Chopped short, spiked, bleached blond, on every single guy. When I'm walking around school I feel like I'm in that "Real Slim Shady" video where there's a hundred Eminem clones. I guess originality scares people.

You'd be surprised how many girls out there love guys with hair. Wait till college. You get a much wider variety of people there, not all those hometown yuppies that like what their tv tells them to. Just hang in there man.
can't understand that

That s great that you like it, but I have yet to meet anyone my age, 25, that likes it. Most women just don't even notice, and as I have flirted with some they just look right past me to the short haired spiky bleached tip guys. Now I have had plenty of women who are old enough to be my mom, say it's so pretty and sexy and all that. HUMM......I just can't figure this out. But Anyway.....I am not going to cut it.!

I don't know, from what i've experienced it seems like long hair isn't even an issue with most people. I personally think the majority of people don't even care if you have it long, but maybe it's just like that around here in NY. I've also lived in L.A. and can't say i felt i was looked down upon.

I'll second that. I too live in New York and I find that most people just don't seem to care at all. And of those that do, well a lot of them are women who give me smiles, hellos and compliments!

These are ONLY my opinions as to "why" the dislike of Long Hair:
1.) Ignorance
2.) Someone is different than the so-called "normal," normal being a word yet to be accurately defined when it comes to we Humans.
3.) A left-over rememberance of the Hippies. I speak here of the trouble-makers at one time with Long Hair as well as the men with Long Hair who were (and some still are) just plain filthy dirty.
4.) Perhaps some are "jealous" that they lack the "guts" to be their own person and feel as if they have to be just like everyone else.
ps: I really don't know if dislike of Long Hairs is Universal. What of the Native American Indians for example.

How long does prejudice hold on?? I mean once men with long hair where hippies, or made trouble, where dirty or whatever but today men have long hair because its just looking good, just a style wich has nothing to do with what it was before. Are people that stupid and see you as one of those even though its not the case or even not a bit obvious? How can this stuck to the mind forever? I think it just can be changed when more men have long hair and prove the opposite.

Well, Native Americans used to be quite hated by white society...they were know as savages with long hair. There may be some remaining bias against longhairs simply stemming from America's horrible treatment of them as a whole even up to modern times. Nowdays white politicians are still trying to take away the few consessions that have been granted them like fishing rights and tax exemptions such as in the case of casinos.

Many people are frightened by anybody that doesn't 'conform'. To them, if you don;t do and think what it is the current trend to do or think, you are dangerous.
Real people like us know that the oppostie is the truth. It is only those with sufficient brain and bottle to stand up against the manipulators that prevent this world from degenerating into total chaos. If you don't believe me, read 'The Trouble Makers' by A J P Taylor.

I would not say universal... As far as my personal experience most ppl I know don't care, some joke around but nothing major.
Women love it; it's great to be walking down campus and a random woman telling you that she loves your hair :)
No problem with professors either...
Do your thing... people that can't accept you for what you are are close minded and can't think outside the box.
The funniest thing is ppl asking are you trying to be a rebel? then I say, yes I am trying to "conform to the image of a rebel, so I should cut it right? to fit your idea of 'normal' ?" ....

For some odd reason, I find people have been more acceppting of long hair in high school. In fact, I see a handful of guys with long hair daily (mostly just passing them in the halls). It seems that undercuts are more common, though.
Most of the "When are you going to cut your hair?" stuff I get is just teasing from various family members and friends. The only comments I can remember about my hair were "Are you growing your hair out?", and someone reffering to me as "that guy with the long hair?" when talking to a friend of mine.
I find I actually got more negative feedback when I had long-ish hair in elementary school. It wasn't long as it is now; I got montly trims and only really let the back grow. People pressured me to cut it, and I did so at the onset of summer, using the heat as an excuse. Everyone said I looked better, but I missed my mullet-esque hair.
