What`s your long hair philosophy?

Hi,
One question which we seldom ask on this board:
what is your philosophy (of life) by being a long hair or wanting to be a long hair?
For me, it`s simple. Long hair is great, it`s cool, however what also matters is that we should strive to be better individuals. What I mean is that people have been giving so much sh!t because of my long hair and they make me think that it`s a great sin just to have long hair. But these bigots, dont not look at their own faults, and defects. As our before-last Prophet Jesus (peace) said: " Let he who is sinless, judge" WHich is impossible, no one is sinless.
Yet people see us as sinners by just being long hair.
The dad of my own cousin says:
" I `d rather have my son smoke than have my son keeping long hair."
Should I cut my hair tomorrow (God forbid), I`d be just like his short-haired son, except that I wouldn`t be smoking?
Stupid, but it`s the truth. They all think like this.
Which is why I wanna be a long hair who has values, respect and who is good in life.
So what`s your philosophy?

I have long hair because... it's how I like to wear my hair. :) No better reason for me need exist. I am an individual, and some of my tastes differ from the tastes of those around me. If they don't like it, then so be it. Someone once told me that "Since you have hair that long, you have to find a girl with hair longer than yours..." The kind of girls I like don't keep their hair that long ;). I guess I'm "SOL," eh?
A lady will judge me not by the length of my hair, or the color of my skin, but by the content of my character. I hope the rest of the world can do the same.
Just like Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton

Hello Michael,
For a fun fact to keep on hand I note that Emma, Lady Hamilton, the mistress of Lord Nelson had shorter hair than he did. May there be many such couples where both have the hair they want on themselves and what they desire on a partner. The linked site below has a portrait of each.
Just how long are you talking about anyway? Brazenly speaking for all long haired girls, we come in every sort, unless of course you mean you like short haired girls and even then there are some girls that have both at the same time.

As another aside, character appreciation is great but look also for the person than more than *not judges* you by skin and hair but adores you for those very traits of yours.

: Thanks ER.
I've just checked out your link and was amused to find that Nelson was a 'navel'(!!) hero. Perhaps that was what appealed to Lady Hamilton....

Well, I have a slight leaning toward girls of African American blood, if you will. :-D They don't usually keep their hair much longer than shoulder-length. I have hair down to the bottom of my ribcage. Call it a preference. Again, not to sound self-contradicting, but I also judge people by the content of their character, not merely by their skin color.
Good news

You are in luck Michael. It is not just the men of African descent that can have gorgeous long hair. Offhand, I can think of three ladies of my online acquaintance that fit your description. Their hair ranges from waist to tailbone through straightening or small dreadlocks. Keep your eyes open for longer ladies near you and good luck! :-)

I guess for me Long Hair isn't really a philosophy, it certainly doesn't distinuish me on a lifestyle level. My philosophy kinda transcends the way I have my hair. I believe in Equality and Social Justice, I'm against prejudice and biggotry, basically I'm a "lefty".
But if your asking why I've been growing my hair for the past year then I guess, its simple... I love the way long hair looks, I enjoy having it, I enjoy experimenting with new styles and I enjoy it being something that catches other people's attention because it is "out of the norm." - I guess that makes me an exhibitionist.
I'm also doing it to prove to myself that I have the self discipline, will-power and determination to see it through, in the face of personal problems, social prejudice and the shear length of time it takes!

Originally, I didn't have a philosophy connected with my hair. As I grew my hair and learned to deal with it, I found myself thinking more independently, tolerantly, and left-side than I was before. So, I guess that the majority of longhaired men are more left-side, independent, tolerant, etc.

Interesting point... for me, in the beginning I just liked the way it looks and I just wanted to look like that too, but now I also think long hair is more natural (can't see what's natural about the "trimmed to 4.678mm and edged with a slide-ruler" haircut, lol).
Why you would be copping flak for your hair is beyond my understanding - if it were dirty, tangled etc I might see the point in the criticisms yet your hair is anything but... and as for that "smoking is better than long hair" part, well I can only shake my head!
Cheers,
Armin

My philosophy:
1) It's a great look, i wouldn't want to look any other way.
2) Long hair adds character and is exotic.
3) Long hair is romantic, that's why in just about every romance novel the man has long hair.
4) My hair makes me feel more in tune spiritually.
5) Remember, don't ever let anyone make you feel bad about your hair, because there is nothing wrong with it. Let the mane flow!

: Hi,
: One question which we seldom ask on this board:
: what is your philosophy (of life) by being a long hair or wanting to be a long hair?
life is a journey full of choices. every choice you make determines to an extent what options confront you down the road.
likewise, being a longhair began with a choice- a simple decision not to get a haircut. each day you choose not to get a haircut you enable the same option down the road. those who have 'arrived' as longhairs have done so by making consistent deciosions where the opportunity is there to do otherwise.
in life it can be said that anything worth having is worth waiting or working for. for me, having long hair is worth the years it took to grow out.

My philosophy:
Life is just a game.
No one loses, no one wins.
They just die trying.
So, no matter what you do, do it for yourself. There will
always be someone who doesn't like your decisions.
And if ignorant people could see past our alledged "rebellion"
against modern-day-society, they would realize that all we are
trying to do is maximize our own quality of life.

Tell you dad that the last I checked, long hair didn't kill thousands of people each year. Eventually he should notice that his foolish comment created a long string of internet posts refuting his judgement, thus allowing him to realize the err of his ways.

I hope despite the naysayers your hair is fun for you Tarikh. From the wonderful pictures you share it looks so and I am glad of that.

I've been wanting to ask that question too.
To answer that question, I have long hair firstly because I think it looks great and is sensuous, secondly because in my mind at least, longhairs were generally liberal, tolerant, caring and peace loving, and finally perhaps because I was not allowed to have long hair when I was a teenager and young man back in the late 60's 70's and early 80's.
Back in the late 60's I found what my father and various authorities in Malaysia and Singapore said about long hair leading to drug addiction, long haired men becoming gangsters, ruffians, etc made no sense and I continued countering thee arguments and that I believe has made me want to have long hair today when I'm pushing 50.
Long hairs back then faced the similar objections you are facing now and they countered with similar arguments like you have -- ie like "you can't judge a book by its cover," etc.
However, I don't know whether most longhairs of today have the same ideals and values longhairs had back in the late 60's and 70's, though I believe you have many of them.
