I broke down and used bob pins today...

My bangs/fringe/frontal hairs are in a "2nd awkward stage" were I can tuck them behind my ears but my hair is so thick and heavy that they pop back out with the slightest movement. Normally I use a combination of L'Oreal Melting Gel and some hairspray my mother gave me to glue them behind my ears. It has been working well except that it leaves my hair stiff and once the style breaks loose, there is no fixing it.
Today I was experimenting with ThermaSilk and a hairdryer. I already knew it makes my hair nice and soft and shiny but does *nothing* to hold the hair in place. Today I figured I would add hairspray after getting the basic style. The result was a complete mess. I tried several shots of hairspray and ended up with thick clumps of hair that would still not stay behind my ears. I combed it out with water and faced the prospect of washing my hair and drying it again. Then I realised that the only problem was the hair on the sides. The rest of it was fine. I grabbed a couple of bob/bobby pins and used them across my hair just behind my ears. It works perfectly. The pins are visible if you look hard enough but I'm sufficiently confident that they look "correct" to wear them out in public. The nice thing is that I have the hairstyle I want without gobs of product in my hair. Tomorrow I just might try the pins without any product at all!

They might be better called: hair pins...but no matter...
the WORK!
Hide them as best you can by grabbing a section of hair in the pin and then...
push that pin UNDER as much hair as you can to hide it.
Hair pins are a Godsend at any time...
but especially during the Awkward Phase.
They may also be used with gel, spray, etc.
Good Luck!

Gollan would you mind going into detail about how you put the bobby pins in your hair and what you do? I am also in the "2nd akward stage". I feel like I have tried everything. My hair sounds
similar to yours so I could use your advice.
Thanks for any help you can give.
By the way how long is your hair?

I am at eleven months growth. Here are a couple of candid pictures of a pin in action. (My hair looks terrible today - I was up at 6:00am and didn't wash it). I put the pins in behind each ear at about a 45degree angle. I grab ahold of the hair I want to pin and pull it taught. Then I press the pin tight against the bare skin just behind my ear and push it up to catch the hair. The pin is obvious in the closeup picture due to the flash photography and the digital camera's ability to capture more detail than the human eye. In reality it is not nearly as visible. The far picture gives an idea of how it really looks. Good luck with your hair growth goals.

Hair pins do not have vaginas and trowsers do not have penises. We live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. We must not allow ourselves to be suppressed by cultural conventions. This is how the powerful control the powerless by creating shame and embarassment when on transgresses an arbitrary social convention. Do it men. Do what you wish as long as you do not harm another.

Well here's an idea. My hair is much like yours it seems. It's at that awkward stage. It almost covers my ears and I can pull it down just my nose. Back when it was like that, my mom suggested putting bobby pins in when you're just sitting around. It will "train" the hair to grow down instead of in your face. As odd as it may sound, it worked. It really did help me out.
