Which do you guys usually wear?
I try and wear it loose most of the time, but I need to tie it back for work and getting it out of the way sometimes.
So what's the general consensus on this?

After the initial thrill of being able to wear it back (now at 15mo growth) I find I've been wearing it mostly down lately. I like the look and feel of it down and since it is pretty much past the awkward stage, it actually looks pretty good too. When I do wear it in a ponytail the women I work with call me "the Poet." Nothin' wrong with that either!

I prefer to wear it loose, but have to wear it in a pony
tail sometimes when i'm working or to
keep control of the hair on windy days, when it
rains, etc.

I wear mine in a tail 50% of the time and loose the other 50% of the time.

I have so much curly hair, that it is really impossible for me to ever wear it down. Every so often I will try it, but I find that it is so much in my face that I can't even see. So what I do is wear it in a variety of styles. Sometimes in a french braid. Sometimes in a braided ponytail. Sometimes in a plain half ponytail. Sometimes in a half ponytail with the ponytail part braided. Sometimes in a half ponytail with a microbraid coming from just behind my ear. Sometimes in a half ponytail above with another lower ponytail underneath. Sometimes in a high full ponytail at the crown. sometimes in a regular low ponytail. Sometimes in a mid height ponytail. Sometimes in a bun and sometimes in a braided bun. It all depends on my mood and on what I have to do that day. Right now it's in a high full pony. As they say, variety is the spice of life!

Ponytail if hair needs to be out of face and clear of machinery (like
on the job) - otherwise loose.
I have yet to see a long haired male in this area (NH, USA) with
one of them 'half' ponytails. I have seen two gents with their
hair in a bun-like thing but other than that it's either
loose w/ baseball cap or in a tail.
I might have to start a trend 'round here. Flannel and half-ponytails.

Due to its extreme length (over 3 feet long) and having a mix of straight, wavy, curly, coarse, medium, and fine hair it is necessary to keep in in a pony tail all the time. I have the wrong hair type to grow super long but have found a creative way around the problem. I keep multiple hair bands along its entire length at about 4 inch intervals. It is a real pain in the ass but I have to do this to keep hair loss to a bare minimum and allow maximum length to be realized. Wearing it loose results in massive knotting and tangling and I would have been lucky to reach 18 inches due to hair loss and breakage. Minimum loss and breakage = maximum length. Absalom

I wear it loose whenever I can, except at work or driving in my jeep with the top down

I refuse to wear my hair in a pony tail until the hair above my eyes can be fully pulled back and tied. I don't want to tie back my middle parting because I've heard that can increase hair loss because of the way the hair folicles are pulled.

As long as you only pull it back when it is dry, and only use a tie that contains no metal or exposed rubber parts and you don't pull it back real tight, you will be fine.

Normally, in a tail at work, and down at home. But, now that cold weather has hit in Georgia, I wear it in half tale to work some (am a teacher). If I don't have hair around my face controlled somehow it is a little maddening. My hair is mid-back length. And definitely in a tale for working out.

I like a ponytail, and wear one most of the time. My hair always looks a real mess loose. For me, wanting hair long enough to tie back was one of the main incentives for growing it.

Mostly loose, but that's because I hate the barrage of cooing and stupid questions which ensue every time I wear a tail. Mind you, my hair doesn't look too bad in a 'ponybun' at the minute...still have to tuck the bangs behind my ears, but it's OK...

I go by the seasons. My hair is usually always in a ponytail during the summer.
Now that it's cold, my hair is down. Helps to keep me warm. The only time I pull it back is while housecleaning in winter, or at work to keep it out of the way.

I almost allways wear my hair down. But at this years Christmas Party I wore a ponytail. Many of the women and some of the men said that they liked it better. I am not sure if this is true, or if it just made me look different and they felt they needed to comment. Of course I am the only one in the firm that has long hair.

Loose, my hair is too short for ponytail. I think it will look better loose so I won't probably wear it tied even in the future.

Mainly in a tail except when I'm sleeping, mainly because I have wavy hair and it gets in my face especially when the wind blows.

Loose, mostly. Some things require it be tied back, though, e.g. fixing my car, operating a chainsaw or even using a drill. Like others who have posted, I also tie it back more in summer. In winter I agree with Sherri that it's warmer worn loose.
I had long hair way before male ponytails became mainstream. Tying it back was just something that girls did. In retrospect, I don't know how I managed back then.

Well, from the female point of view, I like to see both. And, as I've stated in a previous post, I like the hair bound in a braid or queue. But loose is preferable for those "private moments". It's very nice to unbraid a man's hair, brush it out, etc.

Usually in a ponytail. It's below waist length so it's easy to tie back and less likely to get caught in everything.
